The Doorkeepers - Uncanny Magazine It’s Sunday night, which means it’s our Friday night, which means the Doorkeepers go out and get absolutely blasted. It’s not as messy as it sounds. We’re polite drunks; we make a point of it actually...

In case people need it this week, I had a story come out in January about living through times when you don't think things can get better. (Spoiler: They can.)

The Final Girl Trap - Nightmare Magazine You can know something is a trap and walk right into it anyway. There’s a vicious kind of glee in the snap of steel jaws springing closed, biting through skin and splintering bone. You can think aha, ...

New story day! The Final Girl Trap by yours truly is now available to read in Nightmare Magazine. I believe an audio version is forthcoming as well!

Earth and Moon from DSCOVR NASA's Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC) aboard the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) satellite captured this unique view of the Moon as it moved in front of the sunlit side of Earth last month. This view shows the fully illuminated “dark side” of the moon that is never visible from Earth. Ian Regan processed this version of the image to account for the Moon's motion. I hadn't seen this before. This is pretty remarkable.

I'm talking about a book outside the SFFH genre by the way. I realized I should mention that because I am beta reading for some people and also just catching up of some friends' new books.

But sometimes you read something so terrible you wonder why and how it got published.

Then you reread your own WIP and figure "Well, this half revised thing is definitely better that other book, so I might as well see it through."

Which is to say, as annoying as bad art is, it has it uses.

The thing about reading when you're angst-ing about your own WIP (which is always for me) is sometimes you read something amazing and you're like "Holy shit, I want to create that magic for other people" and you have a sense of renewed creative vigor.

Same dog as an adult. Sitting and staring.

This photo was taken 8 minutes ago. Only thing that change is the size of dog and that the stare no longer worries me.

Little black lab puppy. Sitting and staring.

Little black lab puppy. Sitting and staring.

8 years ago I adopted this little monster who would sit there and stare me down when she wanted something. Which was always.

This timeline is so ridiculous in so many ways.

1 month ago 2 0 0 0

Look if you’re going to send an AI generated email praising a story, with an invitation to an event at the end, the least you can do is send it to the right author.

Not that I’m upset at being confused with @rachaelkjones.bsky.social.
