Welp…
I support the decision by the IWM not to renew the 15-yr loan of the Ashcroft Victoria Cross collection. The taxpayer has indemnified & funded the costs of security & exhibition of his investment in a prestigious national museum, increasing its value & probably recouping his £5 million. 1/
A museum display case containing a metal harpoon with an arrow shaped tip. The shaft is twisted four times in a neat corkscrew. A model ship and a rusty metal anchor sit in the background. The label reads: This hand harpoon was recovered from a whale. Its fantastic twisted shape gives some impression of the animal's strength in its struggle to escape. ANSFM:1969.1.40
For #Museum30 Day 10 #Ocean I'm reminded of this incredible Twisted Harpoon from the Scottish Fisheries Museum in Anstruther. It looks quite elegant and yet it conveys the massive force of the whale's struggle.
A book of handwritten notes mentioning 'Climate' and the 'Recent', surrounded by dimpled shards of rock and sediment preserving marks left by rain and hail.
Checking in on Charles Lyell's notebook and 'fossilised' raindrops today at Talbot Rice, where the galleries are filled with the scent of incense and the sound of hand claps mimicking rainfall #Museum30 #Senses
