A vintage black-and-white photo of the 1940 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Superman balloon. The figure has an unusual, bulky body with stiff arms pointed downward, a rounded head with minimal facial detail, and an overall design that barely resembles Superman. Parade handlers walk below holding long guide ropes as the balloon floats between buildings.

A color photo of the 1966 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Superman balloon. The balloon shows Superman with extremely exaggerated proportions—broad chest, tiny waist, and unusually long legs. His face appears simplistic and stylized, and his arms extend straight out in a flying pose. Parade handlers walk underneath as the balloon moves through the street.

Macy’s Two Most Unsuper Superman Floats

Superman’s first Macy’s balloon debuted in 1940, but it got reworked into a football player the next year. The 1966 redesign didn’t help much either, with some truly wild proportions.

Our billionaire President put an airline lobbyist in charge of the Department of Transportation. So no, this is not a surprise.

Marvel Comics writer Chip Zdarsky when asked if Steve Rogers cries during sex:

“I will say, he does not cry during sex, but unfortunately one of the things he does during sex is salute.”

A chart titled “AI & UX Discourse Detox” with two columns. The left column lists unhealthy discourse patterns: FOMO, Gaslighting, Clickbait, Hot Takes, Flexing, and Elitism. The right column offers healthier alternatives: Curiosity-Driven Learning, Critical Perspective, Nuanced Storytelling, Thoughtful Dialogue, Shared Discovery, and Community Stewardship. Each row includes a short description and matching icon. Designed by Mike Schindler (mschindler.com).

The way we’re talking about AI in design is kinda crazy-cuckoo-nutsack-bananas. It’s leaving folks anxious, excluded, exhausted.

So, I wrote a piece to name the patterns — and offer something healthier in return.

Nice! Ben Shahn is seriously my favorite artist. Found a big book of his in college and was blown away. We need more expression like that today.

This is not a pipe: UX, AI, and the risk of satisficed product design AI’s grip on design forces us to reconsider our role in shaping perception, reality, and — most importantly — decision-making.

Just published a new piece with UX Collective:
“This is not a pipe: UX, AI, and the risk of satisficed product design.”
Exploring how generative tools challenge design decision-making.

The Time for UX Solidarity During radically shifting times, these UX truths still hold us together — reminding us of the value we bring, and the purpose we serve.

The UX world feels a little adrift right now—it’s easy to feel disconnected.

I wrote a piece about what still holds us together.
Shared truths. Real collaboration. Compassion over clickbait.

Pretty simple really. He says he was giving his heart out to the crowd. The normal way to do this is to hold your hand over your heart and then simply point with one finger. That’s how a non-Nazi would do it. What he did was entirely something else.
