Listening to Dr Tiffani Angus @tiffaniangus.bsky.social discussing fungal horror: "Fungal horror is an exploration of survival (in some way) and interconnectivity."
2) I touch on this in this blog post on use of italics in ethnographic writing. www.thenarrativecraft.com/post/italics...
1) Cultural anthropologists: Not explaining a field concept can make that concept seem more exotic to readers unfamiliar with the context. These kinds of effects are important to consider when deciding what information to share with the reader and when.
New story klaxon! Our A.J. Hodges confirms some of our worst fears about the phenomenon with 'Silent Disco', (plus Easter Eggs for fans of Manchester's 2000s alt-rock scene).

4 day week. Increased productivity. Reduced stress. Less burnout. Improved health. Lower climate emissions. Let's demand better. On May 7th vote Scottish Greens.
Study after study has shown the benefits of a 4 day week - without loss of pay - for employees, employers and wider society.
We could transform how we work, helping people spend more time with their families, supporting their communities and living happier, healthier lives.
The best part of that article is when they're discussing how just quietly the entire writing profession doesn't talk about money stuff?
You're either silently piecing together side hustles or coasting on family money.
Today I'm excited about the new Making Tax Digital spreadsheet in my accounting software 😅
NASA just dropped this image of Artemis II astronaut Christina Koch looking back at us. The first woman to ever see our planet in its entirety. I’m not crying you’re crying 🥹🔭🧪 📸: NASA

6 Lit mags you gotta submit to this week (& why) The Cincinnati Review - One of the most prestigious traditional print mags out there, they also have a robust digital presence. Apogee Journal - A lit mag that's been slowly but surely establishing their footprint within the indie lit space. Luna Station Quarterly - Dedicated to sharing the "vast talents of female speculative fiction writers," this lit mag is one of the most vibrant and visually appealing spec mags I know. Translunar Travelers Lounge - A newer lit mag, they feature stories that "explore the fun side" of fantasy and sci fi. The Deadlands - I've enjoyed working with this mag in the past. They pay professional rates and have several reading periods throughout the year. The Saturday Evening Post - They've been around since 1821, and they focus on fiction and nonfiction (as well as cartoons) "on the ever-evolving American scene." CHILL SUBS® X ONLY POEMS
What to do on a random Friday night? Why, submit your work to lit mags of course!
Find them here: subclub.substack.com/p/6-lit-mags...
Why would I use "AI," I actually know how to fucking write
I also read some lit fic, women’s fiction, romance and thrillers
I'm in this one with Hatred Enthrones Me! I even made some art for it. Really a bucket-list success for me, and supporting a good cause.
I may be perceived for one day only. The other 364 says you're SOL. #tdov

The podcast I co-host with Antonija and Vesna is usually in Croatian, but this is a full-on English only episode, all about Scottish sf!
(it doesn't give you the full experience our Croatian listeners have, since here we mostly let our guest do the talking)
Oh, wow. Just found this and will meet @neilwilliamson.bsky.social today at a critique group meeting in Glasgow! Will have a listen :D
The Worldcon ep of our podcast is here! We chatted with @neilwilliamson.bsky.social about Scottish speculative fiction and it was so much fun! Writers we should keep our eyes on, gloomy weather, Nova Scotia vol 1 & 2, his books, and other recs. Thank you, Neil! 😊
