Looking at Virginia, a lot of base Dem areas are still largely out. Fairfax is barely in, same with Richmond. Also missing Petersburg, lots of Ablemarle, etc.
Tracking very closely with the state's partisanship: red counties are overwhelmingly "no" and blue ones are overwhelmingly "yes"

impossible to overstate how poisonous this shit is. dudes on the street smiling and waving at your toddler are an indicator of a happy and functional community
The main Democratic strategy for the next 6 months needs to be to let Trump be the main character. Resist allowing Gavin Newsom or Graham Platner or Hasan Piker or whomever from being placed in that role. The election needs to be a referendum on the least popular president of the century
"IN your 30s you will get into birds" FALSE. I was already into them as a result of the COVID pandemic in my 20s.
You know, I'm a big electoral politics guy.
One criticism of electoral politics that I do agree with tho? Too many of the people who comment on and work in that space oft internalize the idea that voters are often, if not always, above reproach.
In a few words: that idea suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks
There was never a good reason to vote for Trump, but voting for him in ***2024***? After we had seen his first two campaigns AND his first term?
Naturally, Americans then voted for the guy at the highest rate he had ever been voted for.
The meme shows a geographic outline of the US stabbing itself. The US has a stupid expression on its face as it stabs itself with two swords, it is also covered in blood. An outline of China looks on studiously, while an outline Europe looks on in shock and concern.
I think this meme remains the most accurate visual summary of the last ~18 months that I have ever seen. Should put it in history books of this period.
Considering that Alex Jones and his most fanatical supporters deserve a fate that is unprintable on the internet for what they put the families of murdered schoolchildren through, I think getting memed on by The Onion is a pretty reasonable compromise.
Watching a movie and finding out that Cillian Murphy is in it as a major character is the cinematic equivalent of finding $100 in your couch
The Infowars news is funny, yes. But more importantly, it is an outright rebuke of Alex Jones' evil.
It's testament to the strength and resilience of the Sandy Hook families who survived this bullshit for more than a decade as well as the Onion, which didn't give up on this for the last 18 months.
The average Hungarian's income is like $20,000 a year btw, and this guy was making 6 figures to propagandize for a fascist
I can't wait to end so many evil, overpaid peoples' careers over the next few years
For fuck's sake, sign up for The Onion, and get a free limited edition IW tote.
A share of merch sales will go to the Sandy Hook families, which will be the first time they get any money since they filed this lawsuit eight years ago.
Legal fees have been insane. Please sign up and help us out!
The Onion and the Sandy Hook families further humiliating Alex Jones is what I needed this fine Monday 🙏
If you honestly think Israel has behaved like an ally of the US in recent years, I've got some prime real estate to sell you. Come on, man. Israel does what's best for Israel, which includes them trying to help the fascists in our country win power. Time to end all aid to them.
One reason I like Abdul El-Sayyed is he's saying the things that need to be said about our relationship with Israel. He's not doing it from a standpoint of "oh, let's help our alliance" - no. He's saying that we shouldn't be supporting a country that does what Israel does... and he's right.
I can’t believe the company that’s founded by a fascist vampire and named after an evil wizard‘s all seeing stone has some fucked up ideas about politics.
I mean for me it was definitely both, won't lie.
I do think not everyone did badly during COVID - I had friends who frankly thrived during it. Sometimes was a bit hard talking to them during that time as a result, since I felt like a loser for not Doing Well
But it strikes me as an extended exercise in deflection. Sure, we can talk about strategy and alignments and all that, but at the end of the day, Trump remains the 2nd largest getter of votes in American history. And it's clear some people don't wanna really think about the implications of that.
I think absolving voters, as many explanations do, is tempting for some because it avoids wrestling with deeper questions, such as: why does a fascist like Donald Trump consistently appeal to up to half of the country?
People then get into the numbers game: "oh, well, it's not really half..."
It gets brought up constantly at gov't meetings, many locals complain about it, when I worked for the City people constantly commented to us about it, etc etc
Meanwhile I think downtown EC is great and it's by far the most pedestrian-friendly area of EC. Love the fact that it's not all about cars!
The parking situation in downtown Eau Claire really isn't as bad as a lot of people make it out to be
I do think it's extremely poetic and fitting that the song most used to memorialize Kirk was: 1. not actually performed by humans and 2. used as meme content. It shows how astroturfed the campaign by the regime to sanctify Kirk was - and how much of a flop it was.
The AI-generated "We Are Charlie Kirk" song was referenced by one of the teens I work with the other week as a joke
>unarmed pleasure vessel inexplicably capable of running a blockade
What did he know?
Tbh, I do think this is just public chest puffing aimed at stopping a full-blown panic, I think the sky high retirement rates for Republican electeds at both the state and federal level is telling a very clear story.
Gotta get the Narcan out for this much copium getting huffed by the Republicans
One of the central lessons of Vietnam, and now Iran, is that a much better-motivated fighting force, fighting for what it perceives as its survival, can outlast far superior forces. Sure, they'll die at way higher rates. But they have the political resolve. And that is everything.
Remember when people were saying Iran couldn't possibly best the US militarily because Iran is so much smaller and weaker militarily and economically
It's funny that for all the US obsesses about the Vietnam War, many Americans have clearly learned less than nothing from it.
There is a subset of people on here who have convinced themselves that there is no legitimate basis for being frustrated with Schumer because the people they hate in their phone were frustrated with him first. That is a bad way to interact with politics.
"We need our supply of cheap, immobile labor to do work we don't want to do"
"Oh, so you'd be cool with them having a path to citizenship?"
"God no, then that means they might eventually find a better job!"
