The Hungarian flag with a hole in the middle used to symbolise the 1956 revolution. Then the symbol of the communist party was cut from the middle of the flag. The country, especially residents of Budapest and some army units fought the invading Soviet troops that were sent to squash the peaceful revolution. A few days ago on the eve of the day when the Soviets attacked Hungary 68 years ago one of the closest ally of Prime Minister Orban lamented that only fools resisted such an overwhelming force. It is not simply an insult towards todays Ukraine, towards our heroes, the victims of the fights back in 1956, the executed and towards the 200.000 who left Hungary. It is simply questioning the moral foundations of the peaceful change in 1990. The foundation, the origin of the new democratic Hungary established in 1990 was that all political parties and society at large considered the events in 1956 as a revolution and expressed the utmost desire of the nation to belong to Europe and to the Western world.
