+1 (and I wasn’t quite sure before given the power of the Strait). Invasion insurance is not optional when the other side cannot credibly commit to a deal. Even after Trump is gone, polarization still means a deal may not outlast a change in party in the White House.

Strategic genius.

I can't see the election changing anyone's mind. Trump didn't vote himself into office twice, or force congress to sit back and do nothing while he waged an illegal war that explicitly violates the constitutional limits placed on his power. The US doesn't have a Trump problem, it has a US problem.

Trump’s desperate and bottomless need for self-congratulation and self-valorization make it entirely plausible that he migrate from “Thanks to me, Iran will be annihilated” to “Thanks to me, Iran will have a golden age” in 24 hours, as long as he never has to admit uncertainty or failure in between.

You know what? I'll admit it. The credible threat by a madman to wipe out a nation of 90 million people for basically no reason (presumably using nuclear weapons) successfully distracted me. I am now distracted.

8/ It's virtually certain that Iran would spend much of its newfound income on rearming itself to deter future attacks. The war could ultimately result – if it is not repeated – in Iran becoming one of the richest and most powerful countries in the region. /end

After Iranians, Lebanese, and Israelis suffer, the US thankfully surrenders war Israel instigated with Iran, agreeing to a two week ceasefire on Iran’s terms.
Conflicting reports on agreement re war in Lebanon persist.

Trump's War If Trump campaigned as a President of peace, he has governed as the opposite

#DHS Noem out =>New dir. is a man who:
• has no experience
• Confuses Iraq / Iran
• Opposes abortion in ALL cases -
• Election denier
• Only sen without bachelor's degree
Meanwhile, "asked whether Americans should be worried about retaliatory attacks at home" President : "some people will die."

Why Rep. Greg Landsman thought talking on the phone with Isaac Chotiner was a good idea still baffles me.

I would've immediately resigned from Congress and retreated into the abandoned Cincinnati Subway, never to be seen again

Behold: the first-ever list of news outlets that have banned generative AI in their reporting. As of today, this is literally information that you cannot find on Google.

My goal is to fill the starter pack, so please send over suggestions with supporting evidence!

24,403 lawsuits and counting: How habeas corpus became the front line of immigration defense "We have to kick the door down."

Immigrants are successfully challenging the Trump administration's mass detention policy and winning release from ICE custody—thanks to a centuries-old legal principle and constitutional right. My latest for @motherjones.com:

It's the #MadLibWar --!

We had to attack Iran because <of the Iranian people>

... because <there were missiles>

... because <of their nuclear program>

... because <of regime change>

... because <of naval ships (?? this is new as of today!!>

Lloyd Axworthy: Canada once rejected America’s aggressive, unlawful foreign policy. Today Mark Carney embraced it By endorsing preventive strikes on Iran during ongoing diplomacy, and after Washington itself shredded the previous agreement, we are embracing the very doctrine we used to reject, writes Lloyd Axwort...

I study world politics for a living, and as much as I try, I still can't make sense of what's been coming out of Ottawa on Iran over the weekend aside from a mix of myopic risk aversion, incompetence, foolishness, and Stockholm syndrome relapse.

The American people deserved to get a clear explanation of why servicemembers lives are at risk and why their gas prices are about to skyrocket. Instead, they got this.

Old enough to know that all wars start with wildly fanciful claims of quick success. Including the US civil war (I’m not *that* old but I do read history)

As Tumbler Ridge Mourns, Anti-Trans Misinfo Spreads | The Tyee No good will come from the conservative rush to weaponize the shooter’s identity in this story.

The response to the #TumblerRidgeShooting from far-right media, online commentators and even an elected official in Canada is another dark example of how pervasive anti-trans misinformation has become, even in Canada.
