Yeah i think behind the thought process is that things won't progress to be that bad totally independently of people's reactions. or maybe that it will only do so for some people, who are expendable

I'm not sure i believe in like "legitimizing" things bc it seems like people dont really care about legitimacy at this point, but that's another factor that separates this from intrapersonal conflict

I think this is a way people project intrapersonal dynamics onto political events. Like, yeah, its generally better to de-escalate conflict with strangers bc you don't know what they are going to do. But we're so past what i would tolerate from some random person on the street.

i find most "don't give them what they want" arguments (like ICE is trying to start a riot to enact martial law) to really not have any coherent end point. Like, something can always get worse if you react to it. What's the actual line? For some people making this argument, i'm not sure there is one
