According to the BBC, a third of my Yorkshire water bill in Dec 2024 went on debt and dividends. An 8% increase will come my way on April the 1st to pay for "investment", apparently. When will labour end this scandal @lukecharters.bsky.social

Just had my bill for Yorkshire water, 8% rise on April the 1st. What is Labour going to do about this scandal @lukecharters.bsky.social

Privatisation broke our water system.

@labourslewis.bsky.social has a people-first, evidence-based alternative, and I’m backing it.

Justice delayed is justice denied. Isn't that the saying?

It really is incredible to see how some governments will turn themselves inside-out and sacrifice just about every single value they purport to have, rather than accept the premise that Palestinians should count as human beings.

Amazing how out of step Labour are with the public on this.

75% of people support a weath tax on assets (2% over £10M and 1% over £1B).

70% support a tax on hones worth £2M+

Voters want to TAX THE ULTRA RICH FUND PUBIC SERVICES!!!!!

Christiane Amanpour, "Antisemitism is a major problem. How do you navigate that?"

Zack Polanski, "I think it is a powerful message to have a Jewish leader and a Muslim deputy leader"

"Antisemitism and Islamophobia are two sides of the same coin"

Southern Water bans tankers doing runs to US billionaire's lake Tankers taking water for US billionaire Stephen Schwarzman have been told to stop by Southern Water.

American billionaire Stephen Schwarzman, founder of Blackstone & owner of the 2,500-acre Conholt Park shooting estate in Wiltshire, has been tankering in huge quantities of water from drought-struck Hampshire to fill up his lake (legally, but outrageously):

Big changes planned for Liverpool Street Station 🚉

A proposal would see part of the station replaced with a 90-storey tower. But there’s a better way.

With a sensitive, phased scheme, Liverpool Street could be upgraded while keeping its unique character👉 casework.jcnas.org.uk/appl/206882

Nice to see #cityofyorkcouncil doing its bit for #nomowmay. Apparently this campaign is "false". News to @plantlifeuk.bsky.social I am sure.

Government ‘failing to support natural regeneration of trees in England’ Campaigners say targets for woodland creation are unlikely to be met because 95% of grants are for planting

REVEALED: only 5% of Forestry Commission grants for woodland creation have been spent on the natural regeneration of trees, while the remaining 95% is spent on tree planting.

The government needs to change the rules.

For Pope Francis the liberal, this promises to be a very bloody Sunday | George Monbiot George Monbiot: Francis is the poster pope for progressives. But canonising a genocidal missionary like Junípero Serra epitomises the Catholic history problem

Even under the most liberal of popes, the Catholic Church failed to acknowledge its history of tyranny, torture, misogyny, enslavement and colonialism. It's time for honesty. I wrote this in 2013 about the impending canonisation of the genocidaire Junipero Serra.

Breaking news! @sportengland.bsky.social's #ActiveLivesSurvey shows that walking for leisure has increased by 6.8%. That's over 3 million adults in England who are walking more! But there’s clearly a need for safer, more pleasant streets, as fewer people are walking for travel. 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️

Planning bill would allow builders to ‘pay cash to trash’ nature, say UK experts Exclusive: plan to let firms sidestep environmental laws by paying into nature levy would add cost and delay, says letter to MPs

The Govt’s #PlanningBill would allow developers to pay cash to trash wildlife & the environment. The nature levy isn’t a tool for ecological recovery - it’s a license to kill nature. Pleased to join ecologists & experts to sign letter to MPs👇

Labour’s great nature sellout is the worst attack on England’s ecosystems I’ve seen in my lifetime | George Monbiot The horrifying planning bill, which rips up environmental protections, was drafted with CEOs in mind. We know because Keir Starmer told us, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

It's hard to get your head around the scale of the environmental vandalism the Labour government is hoping to unleash. The Planning and Infrastructure Bill is up there with Trump's executive orders. And the reason is the same: corporate power.
This week's column.

Today, water bills are rising on average by £123.

Water companies will flood you with PR, claiming it’s for investment. Don’t be fooled.

We've already paid for it for the last 35 years-they used it to pay out dividends & fuel debt.

We’re paying twice for an abhorrent service.
