Very cute! I like the color contrasting outline for the suit.
Crow doodle asking how much should you charge for digital asset manager and data freelance labor. Table shows average freelance day rates in pounds and dollars for titles like Brand Manager ($419), Content Manager ($419), Data Analyst ($575), Digital Media Manager ($406), Head of Online or Digital ($622), Production Coordinator ($311), Project Director ($622), and Research Analyst ($487).
How much should you charge for digital asset manager and other freelance data services? Your rates are your rates. Only you know your finances. But here's some ideas on what to charge based on day rates of freelancers in creative industries.
Cartoony crow staring at a message in it's hands that reads: An update on my Bloombury book. Chapter one is done!
Chapter one of my book, "Archives and The Politics of Sovereignty Violence," is done!! I rage-wrote a good chunk on some of the real-time acts of sovereignty violence that the US government is committing against its citizens (e.g. ICE, Epstein Files Cover-Up, mass firings across cultural heritage).
WIP storyboard for the video game's opening. Still on the fence on how I want to design the DM who'll show up as the narrator in the tv commercial. I'll probably test this for keyframe animation in godot too. #dnd #indiegame #gamedev #storyboard #2dart #godot
Our animated trailer hit 800K views!!!
It gave our sales and wishlists a massive boost. Turns out taking risks with unusual art direction can really pay off 🌞
Screenshot of a storyboard showing a bleary eyed rat in bed surrounded by books and papers.
I decided to make a storyboard for my opening animation that plays before you select your DnD character class to help plan out the plot, Janice's placement, and what will be quick and easy for doing in engine. #indiegame #gamedev #2dart #dnd #turnbased #godot
Screenshot of a Godot scene showing a cartoony grocery store background. A fat rat man stands in the back smiling. A gator makes a "one second" hand gesture (hand raised, pointer finger to the sky). A blue hand holding coupons is in the far left.
I started adding art assets into Godot. I didn't realize how good I had it in the other games I made. I could pull in animations as GIF files outright. Not in Godot.🫣 #indiegame #gamedev #dnd #2dart #turnbased #godot
Cartoony crow smiling while surrounded by pages of paper. The writing reads: What freelance writing projects is Dana working on?
Spring is the season of writing. I got a book project on archives and the politics of tribal sovereignty violence and papers on: digital preservation of AR tech, AI in healthcare data operations, and Gen Zers obsession with Billy Joel's song "Vienna." What are you working on?
Cartoony crow doodles in different poses.
Turned in my first chapter for my book. It felt like this.
I'm a part of a working group looking at still image authenticity and we made a survey to collect use cases/user stories to be included in the Appendix of a white paper on the subject. You can take the survey and learn more about it at forms.gle/mt7HwZAz48eU... #culturalheritage #stillimages
Cartoony crow surrounded by women characters.
It's International Women's Day! I've always relied on many women in my data career and life. I strongly believe in collaboration that is reciprocal (it mutually benefits both parties). How do you support your femme colleagues and collaborators?
Cartoony crow tapping a board that reads: Data consultant, digital asset manager, fullstack developer. Newspapers sit on a table; their headlines include: My books are open, remote, freelance, contract work and part time.
My books are open! I help nonprofits, archives, museums, libraries, and creatives manage their IT systems, databases, websites, and media (working files, animations, A/V, infographics, fonts, licenses, comics). Have a project? Email me at danareijerkerk@gmail.com.
Cartoony cat with wide bloodshot eyes with the words imposter syndrome above it.
Monday vibe.
Strawberry doodles and a watercolor cartoony alligator.
A cartoony crying bunny holding a wilted flower.
A cartoony cat holding a giant magnifying glass.
Another white paper published! I partnered with a fellow freelancer to write on AI in healthcare data operations. Here's some of the cartoony art I made for it. I tried to replicate the medieval manuscript art-style, which notoriously had bizarre healthcare imagery. #2dart #whitepaper
Cartoony game over video game menu of a hand holding a notebook with the words game over at the top and a crying rat pulling their ears over their eyes.
Game over menu. #indiegame #gamedev #godot #2dart #dnd
Cartoony rat looking around an empty fridge.
Janice is pissed there's no food. This is one of the OG scenes to set up the premise of the game. I'm working on making Janice's face more cartoony and easier to add tiny animations. #indiegame #gamedev #2dart #dnd #godot
Cartoony hands holding a piece of paper that reads shopping list.
Quest menu! It's going to pop up from the bottom of the screen. If I can figure this out: I also want a subtle animation of the page flapping a little right when you pull it out. #indiegame #gamedev #godot #2dart #dnd
Cartoony crow holding a piece of paper that reads: I'm writing a book on archives and the politics of tribal sovereignty violence in the USA.
I've got news. I'm writing a book on Archives and the Politics of Tribal Sovereignty Violence in the US with Bloomsbury Libraries Unlimited!
Cartoony video game settings menu showing a hand holding coupons.
Redesigned the settings menu! I put filler text for music and voice volumes. I'll use the in-game font for that. #indiegame #gamedev #2dart #godot #dnd
I made this little demo in a few hours today just to see if I could achieve the sort of, midcentury off-kilter background art vibe.
They're just very simple geometries with some grease pencil, which has a subtle noise modifier on it.

I'm writing a technical paper for iPRES on augmented reality digital preservation and came across this interesting article on AR as a socio-technical approach. It's not just the tech stack that matters; the interests and satisfaction of users are equally important. www.nature.com/articles/s40...
Cartoony drawing of people standing around a grocery store.
Cleaning up backgrounds with the correct separation of characters vs backgrounds this time. #indiegame #gamedev #godot #2dart #dnd
Still changing the UI. I made the inventory bigger with buttons you click to move up/down. You click the grocery list icon (top right) to view your quests. Working on the logic for mouse hover and clicks. #godot #indiegame #indiedev #2dart #dnd
Different poses and facial expressions of pregnant character in green socks.
Behold Beatrice, your rogue class companion in "Don't Talk To Me". Besides that I'm fixing menus and designing a modal menu for inspect/talk when you hover over NPCs and objects in the game. #godot #indiegame #indiedev #dnd #2dart
Medieval art style doodles
I'm working on a white paper on healthcare data operations and made these medieval art-style doodles to go in it.
“Tech critics become technocrats when they overlook the daunting administrative density of a digital-first society. The author implores critics to reject structural dependencies on digital tools rather than naturalize their integration via critique/reform“ J.Penn

Found an old prototype for "Late Night Surfing" - a Big Comfy Couch tv show spoof. Timing the mouth movements and getting the overlays to work when you changed channels sucked. You can play the full game for free: decolfutures.itch.io/late-night-s...

Thanks! Rugrats is part of my art references. I'm glad that came through.
Background art for a video game showing grocery store shelves and a ceiling.
Background art for a video game showing a front door and open doorway with a covered window.
Background for a video game showing a curved kitchen floor, green fridge, and pet food bowl.
This weekend I worked on backgrounds. I want to return to the game's front menu next. #indiegame #gamedev #godot #dnd #2d #art
