"Your job is so fun," yes, but did you know I have to single handedly fight no fewer than sixth algorithms every day for the privilege of telling people to not set their beds on fire.

A small plant in the ground that’s really just a few sticks with the bark chewed off but there is fresh green foliage coming out at the base of it.

Something, a squirrel or more likely, a rabbit, took my double flowering quince down to bones last fall 😩 but look at that! It’s coming back 🥹 🌱

Me, a few weeks ago: I’m sure I scattered those poppy seeds nice and evenly across this dirt patch.

The seeds, today:

Hugs back! Sometimes I’m surprised at all the down time but it’s not really “free time” is it? Always hyper vigilant

This happened to me, I closed my handmade business for 5 years at the start of COVID which coincided with my new role as full time family caregiver. I became a quilter. I don’t sell quilts, I keep or give them away. I share pics to participate in the creative community but I don’t create “content”.

#caregiving can be like a baseball game, hours of anticipation while nothing happens interrupted by moments of chaos. Also sometimes you win, sometimes not so much.

I do the same, incorporate lots of getting up to prevent seizing up my joints

An infographic. There are six panels.

1. "Slow internet. Alt text is shown in place of unloaded images." a drawing shows a phone with poor signal, and alt text is visible where the image should have loaded.

2. "Findabillity. Alt text helps to search content." A drawing shows someone searching 'dog with banana' and a post is shown underneath without the words 'dog' or 'banana'. It is implied to be part of the alt text.

3. "Screen readers. Alt is read out to people using text-to-speech software". There is a drawing of the output a screen-reader would show when viewing an image with alt text on bluesky.

4. "Translation. Alt text can be translated". A drawing shows a post being translated. The alt text is also translated into german.

5. "Readability. Text in images can be made legible" There is a drawing of some truly awful handwriting inside a speech bubble. The alt text clarifies what the text is supposed to say.

6. "Disambiguation. Description helps clarify intent." There is a drawing of a post with a picture of a creature. This is styled after the famous optical illusion of a rabbit and a duck. The alt text clarifies that the animal is a rabbit. It definitely looks more like a duck.

Generally we think of alt-text as the domain of those with accessibility needs.

However alt-text is useful for many reasons, which benefit your viewers, as well as you, the creator!

Thanks for talking about #caregiving it can be very isolating even though apparently there are 63 million of us!

I’m telling ya, I also see other ways it can go down and YIKES. Glad yours was not the worst. Super grateful yeah. My mom was a nightmare for 3 years, like a feral dog, but then she settled and has been a dream for the last 5 😅

It’s a blessing and a curse in my opinion. It’s a way to connect but also we learn too many awful things
