The police and courts cannot decide who is or isn’t a journalist. What’s really being targeted is the public’s right to know. Censorship disguised as “security” must be exposed.

Havva Gümüşkaya, a reporter for BirGün newspaper, was detained while covering a student demonstration in central Ankara. She has since been released.
Authorities must refrain from obstructing journalists in the course of their work.
