Reporter: What do you make of Republicans saying that Virginia—
AOC: Wah wah wah.
We have asked Republicans for 10 years to ban partisan gerrymandering. And for 10 years, Republicans have said no.
What they’re just mad at is that they have been accustomed to a Democratic Party that rolls over.

"Patel didn’t file this to win. He filed it to show Trump he’s not just a dilettante flying around on the FBI jet, but a loyal crony fighting back against the fake news ... come on, dude, we’ve all seen your little beer party with the hockey team. A sober, serious public servant you are not."
BREAKING: A GOP-appointed Virginia judge has struck down the Democratic-backed redistricting amendment in full, ruling it unconstitutional and “void from the start.”
AG Jay Jones says he will immediately file an appeal.
With the result in Virginia, here's what we know about how mid-decade redistricting has shifted the landscape.
Across the 7 states with new maps:
—11 districts have shifted toward Democrats;
—9 districts have shifted toward the GOP.
Texas redistricts without a vote, Republicans cheer.
Dems in Virginia respond by putting it UP FOR A VOTE OF THE PEOPLE, it passes, Republican cry foul.
Oh well. Good job Virginia!!
as it becomes clear that Yes has won in VA and gerrymandering will pass, a message to Republican voters:
you brought this on yourselves
you convinced the most fairness-obsessed, That Wouldn’t Be Fair-minded voters in the country to affirmatively vote to put you in the dumpster
you earned this
Rep. Jim McGovern in a suit outside a government building. Overlaid text shows a question about Kash Patel’s drinking, followed by McGovern saying Patel was already a national security concern and a dangerous head of the FBI.
A sitting member of Congress called the head of the FBI a national security concern.
And he’s still in charge.

Remember, Democrats have repeatedly advanced measures to ban partisan gerrymandering and Republicans have voted against them time after time.
This is the game Republicans wanted to play. OK, then.
This is what caused Trump’s meltdown tonight.
I would submit that a gerrymander by politicians saying fuck the voters and one by voters saying fuck the politicians are two wholly different animals
“Virginia voters on Tuesday approved a Democratic redistricting plan that could allow the party to pick up as many as four new seats in the midterm elections”
www.nbcnews.com/politics/202...
Virginia Senate President Pro Tempore L. Louise Lucas: “You all started it, and we f—ing finished it”
The Associated Press is reporting that the Virginia Redistricting Referendum has passed!
Virginians land yet another blow to Donald Trump’s attempts to maintain power over Congress.
One winner: Virginia State Senator & dedicated poster L. Louise Lucas, who spearheaded the “10-1!” push
🚨BREAKING: Voters in Virginia have greenlit a plan that could see Democrats gain up to four more seats in Congress during the 2026 midterm elections. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...
Congratulations, Virginia! Republicans are trying to tilt the midterm elections in their favor, but they haven’t done it yet. Thanks for showing us what it looks like to stand up for our democracy and fight back.
Starting a mid-decade redistricting war only to end up with -1 seats is the same fine strategic genius and subtle grasp of game theory that brough us the Strait of Hormuz.
It’s official - VICTORY in Virginia as voters approve new redistricting plan with a 10-1 Democratic advantage
This could mean up to FOUR more seats for Dems in House this November
Mike Johnson, consider yourself on notice - the American people are about to FIRE you
I'm sure Alito is fuming about the Virginia vote and itching to strike down the rest of the Voting Rights Act as petty revenge.
But Democrats are likely retaking the House, maybe the Senate, no matter what SCOTUS does now.
Killing the VRA would just be a final insult that speeds court reform.
Democrats did not want to do any mid-decade redistricting. It was Trump who started it in June 2025 with a phone call to Greg Abbott after more special election losses. Dems warned they’d respond. But Texas did it anyway - without the consent of the voters. Then Dems responded.
GOP - *gerrymanders*
DEMS - hey stop that no fair
GOP - *gerrymanders even more*
DEMS - we mean it we’re gonna sue
SCOTUS - *legalizes gerrymandering completely*
DEMS - *start gerrymandering*
GOP - HEY STOP THAT NO FAIR!!!! 😭
A social media graphic with a navy blue border and cream background. Navy blue and orange text reads, "Special election update: Virginia says YES! to new congressional maps." At the bottom of the word 'YES!,' an orange outline of the commonwealth of Virginia appears with Governor Abigail Spanberger wearing a white coat inside of the state.
It’s official: Virginians have rejected Trump and Republicans’ efforts to rig the midterms.
In less than 196 days, we will flip the House blue.
Virginia voting FOR redistricting in favor of Democrats underscores how stupid Donald Trump was to start this redistricting war in Texas.
Much like Donald's poorly thought-out war in Iran, his gerrymandering war is BACKFIRING on him. What a sad, simple man.
Congratulations Virginia!! Yes Passes!!! Virginia will redistrict.
I am glad this passed but there is something wrong with these numbers. These numbers do NOT follow the trend we have seen in the last year of elections shifting 10 points to the left. Something stinks here.
Great job Virginia and congratulations for standing up to a wanna be dictator and punching back!
Lets go!!!
A bunch of fucking people on the right are crying tonight about the results in Virginia. Y’all should take a moment and call your buddies who are the governor of Texas and Donald Trump. You’re a bunch of fucking losers. The voters have spoken. Unlike TX. Fuck around and find out.
You can have no rage, Republicans, when you lit the fuse.
You just got outplayed
If Republicans hate the CA and VA redistricting, they can thank the person responsible - Donald J. Trump.
None of it would’ve been possible without his leadership on this issue.
