Fractures Emerge Between GOP’s Pro-Pedophilia, Extremely Pro-Pedophilia Wings

You kind of get used to the naked inhumanity of Trumpism, it's odd to see a callback to the clothed-in-MBA-euphemisms inhumanity of respectable conservatism.
...about the only thing philosophers of science, STS researchers, and practicing scientists agree on is that science is about the process rather than the outputs.
A network of 20 inauthentic YouTube accounts has racked up nearly 40 million views by peddling lies, grievance, division and narratives normalizing the prospect of Alberta’s secession and annexation by the United States. @charlesrusnell.bsky.social reports. #abpoli
there's no academic freedom in Texas's public universities
but there's no academic freedom wherever a billionaire or a state governor can exercise a veto over what gets researched or taught and be confident that university administrators will enforce it -- whether the rationale is morals or markets
Those of us doing research related to women’s health have been hit particularly hard by the govt’s sabotage of the NIH. I spoke to WaPo for this piece, as painful as it was to discuss the reality my lab is facing. www.washingtonpost.com/science/2026...
"Pancreatic cancer mRNA vaccine shows lasting results in an early trial: Scientists caution that more research is needed, but nearly all of the patients who responded to the personalized vaccine are still alive six years later."
Learn whatever you want about "law," it doesn't matter because GOP Justices blew up the entire process of deciding cases based on chats with rich friends and stuff they watched on TV. That was the entire basis on which SCOTUS switched to the shadow docket.
Exactly one year ago today:

So tempting, but then I remembered: if an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
For the cost of one Harvard Professor of the Constitution Only Applies to White People, you could endow 10 professorships of any less commonly taught language at any university in the USA
There has never been any association
In another massive data set of more than 1.5 million children ‌born between 1997 and 2022, the use of Tylenol during pregnancy was NOT associated with autism, even after accounting for individual risk factors. Autism was diagnosed in 1.8% of children exposed to Tylenol and 3% of the unexposed group.
We found that 10% of participants endorsed this statement (i.e., they selected “Definitely true” or “Probably true”) and that this was a strong predictor of endorsing six pre-existing conspiracy theories, including two that that directly contradicted each other.
In a new study my collaborators and I focus on this alternative hypothesis. We asked participants if this statement is true or false: “The Canadian Armed Forces have been secretly developing an elite army of genetically engineered, super intelligent, giant raccoons to invade nearby countries”.
This is the worst kind of corporate, McKinsey and Company type of arrogance. Rushing to optimize, change, or cancel an institution that you have absolutely no understanding of.

A "750g" bag of semolina that weighs 620g.
You have got to be kidding me.
One of the ways news media often fail us is by giving us the microscopic rather than the telescopic view. Everything I mention in this essay is well-documented, but the dots are mostly not connected to make visible this death by a thousand cuts our country is undergoing.

An mRNA treatment for PANCREATIC CANCER was in trials, among many other uses. Choosing to end this research is choosing to sentence millions to an early, painful death
A colleague recently had an expense report denied because they requested a per diem on a travel day that they "could have [theoretically] had breakfast at home."
The enormous bureaucracy subjecting faculty to scrutiny vs the routine occurrence of blatant theft by administrators is...funny.
There’s no such thing as “birthright citizenship for illegal aliens.”
The U.S. Constitution is abundantly clear that if you are born in the United States, you are a citizen. Trying to take away citizenship from Americans is not only extreme, but also unconstitutional.
Exclusive: The acting director of the CDC has delayed publication of a report showing the covid-19 vaccine cut the likelihood of ER visits and hospitalizations for healthy adults last winter by about half, according to two scientists.
The right's pitch for women's submission is that it will cause men to provide, protect, and cherish women.
Turns out the opposite is true. Research shows conservative men see tradwives as lazy parasites. They loathe them.

Rep. Ansari: "Donald Trump is trying to normalize language that essentially threatening genocide, threatening the potential use of nuclear weapons ... how is nobody trying to restrain this madman who is trying to get all of us killed. This is a nightmare scenario. It's apocalyptic."
They're commissioning the world's top scientists to print the text of the First Amendment on a single atom and releasing it in Trump's general direction
A pointed statement would be not going, and also reporting the truth instead of normalizing fascism.
NYTimes Headline: The Women Who Believe That Women Should Lose the Right to Vote Subhead: Adherents to biblical patriarchy support household voting: One household, one vote--the husband's. They say the idea is catching on.
The New York Times rolling up its sleeves to do the hard work of normalizing the idea that women should not have the right to vote.
