An Update from Big Bad Con Based on the current political climate, it is irresponsible to announce a physical convention in 2026. We assure you: Big Bad Con still exists. Things are happening behind the scenes. Internal conversations are ongoing and we are working hard on the future of our convention-what Big Bad Con will look like for the years to come, when we can return to hosting events, and what those will look like. We miss you too and from all of us at Big Bad Con, we hope you have a safe and peaceful holiday season. Our discord server is still available while our staff and volunteers rest for the remainder of 2025.

Announcement for 2025 After careful consideration, the Board, Leadership, and our Staff have concluded that we are unable to host our in-person convention this year. We discussed this thoroughly and this decision was not reached lightly. Our volunteer Staff and Rangers exceeded expectations in organizing last year’s convention. We thank them for their hard work.

We have reached an agreement with the boycott organizers ​& the boycott is not moving forward.​ We have posted a message regarding our Anti-Harassment & Community Standard policies.​ As part of our public statement, we decided to start two fundraisers to send direct aid to Palestinians. We donated $5,000 & we will match up to $5,000 more. Links to join the fundraiser can be found here: https://www.bigbadcon.com/blog/our-stance-in-support-of-palestinians/​ We gave $2,500 to ‘The Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund’ who airlift injured children out of Palestine to safe locations for medical care.​ We gave $2,500 to ‘Crips for eSims for Gaza’ who are providing eSims to Palestinians so their phones can access the internet. Phase I of event sign-ups are tomorrow at noon Pacific! You will be able to sign up for ​2 events at this time. Phase II is Wednesday, October 9 at 6 pm Pacific for 2 additional events.​ Phase III is Sunday, October 13 at noon for unlimited event signups.​

At Big Bad Con, we try to foster a community that cultivates our Community Standards of Respect, Support, & Kindness. This is easy to say in practice, but can be harder to do in the real world with its intolerances, conflicts & atrocities. Disagreement is not harassment, however disregarding someone’s boundaries or threatening violence is. As stated clearly in our Anti-Harassment Policy, we do not condone harassment or violence of any kind. We cannot moderate the world outside of our convention spaces, however this will not prevent us from taking action when appropriate. We do not monitor all conversations that occur in our convention spaces, but we do expect that everyone abides by our Community Standards & Anti-Harassment Policy. Our Stance in Support of Palestinians

Our public statement, Our Stance in Support of Palestinians, is now published on our website.

Some staff met with Rabbi Brant Rosen, an anti-Zionist Jewish consultant who helped us further embolden and clarify our public statement. We want to acknowledge that we have struggled to communicate outwardly about the intense work that responding to the demands has required. We fully recognize the negative impact that has had for those who have been waiting to hear our response. We commit to rebuilding trust with our community. Our public statement, Our Stance in Support of Palestine, is now published on our website here We are sharing our second response to the boycott organizers here, which individually addresses our renewed efforts to meet the demands. Discord will continue to be read-only until Monday. Next week we must return to convention preparation, but recognize that this work is not done. We commit to building better allyship with all of our community members, and will be identifying concrete next steps to continue that work moving forward.

Our fifth update: We submitted a response to the boycott organizers, which was rejected. We are continuing to work on addressing their demands.We’re holding off on making a public statement until that is done. It will be released before October 1st. We pushed the event signup dates back another week (first sign ups October 5 at 12PM Pacific) to give us more time to address the boycott demands. For more details on the signups and the other signup dates see our Scheduled Events FAQ https://www.bigbadcon.com/scheduled-events-faq/ We recognized that we don’t have sufficient moderation staff and so going forward, we will no longer host conversations about the boycott on our server. We encourage you to continue the discussion elsewhere. Additional details about our moderation policies will be posted in our #Server Details channel later this week We will reopen Discord on Monday September 30 to prepare for event sign ups.

Our fourth update: Met with Rabbi Menachem Cohen to consult on our public statement, event submission policies, and advice on other consultants to reach out to. We are continuing to reach out to Anti-Zionist and progressive Jewish consultants. Continued staff education about Zionism and Palestine. Revised and updated our anti-harassment policy Completed our response to the boycott organizers which was sent this afternoon. We also reached out to the panel host. Drafted a public statement which will be shared early next week.
