This period of a more Famicom-like sound turned out to be a good side journey. In the raw, I could more clearly hear where my composition needed to breathe (or more specifically, just how far I could go in creating a wall of sound).
These songs were never used for anything. I had fun writing them.

During this rut, I wasn't happy with my compositions nor with my mixing as it was.
I returned to what I considered to the basics. I took a loose 8-bit approach to strip away everything into its rawest state. From this point on, all songs I write would begin first as Famicom-style draft pieces.
Drawing a fancy cave background parallax for today's Timespinner 2 development livestream!

Graduating high school in 2009, my plans for the following two years fell through. Nothing was happening for me how I expected, and so I also fell into a rut with my music.
But I muddled through, attempting to emulate the sounds of Cave Story (using pxTone) and CPS2 games (using CPS2 soundfonts).
Debug drawing with tool scripts is one of my favorite things to do! (:
I’m beginning to feel that the secret to getting old and experiencing body pain is to work out harder, so that you’re constantly in pain but also working towards that Master Roshi (full power) body
I ported my Unity game very quickly, but I also didn’t have any dialogue nor carefully choreographed scenes, which I imagine puts the kibosh on the notion of switching :c

Here's the last of "JRPG music saga" Phanterm. Can't include everything, but closing it out with two dungeon themes. The first is a playful forest theme, and the other is just generically "dungeon".
I had a lot of fun with making the percussive melodies. I feel that might be my specialty...
I audibly gasped and rushed to make the shitpost, then I saw the alt text on the original post and realized that was your intent from the beginning... 🤌

A couple more sets of JRPG music; this time we're on dungeon themes.
Fennoxie Swamp was my attempt to play with some of the weirder sounds I'd loved from Nobuo. Very happy with how it turned out.
Battle Meditation was yet another fight theme. Was directed to get a "halfway point" sort of vibe.
GDScript is super fun and I like it a lot 😇
I know upstairs is a shop, but I like to imagine it’s one of those joints where there’s a bartender both upstairs and downstairs.

Some spells have unique interactions where you must hold down the button to continue casting.
With Flotilla, entering the hurt state while continuing to hold down that button will ensure a "max_knives" flag is never set. If you re-equip the spell here, it softlocks the game.
I fixed this but lol

More JRPG music! I love writing villain themes. I dunno what it is; maybe it's being able to indulge in those Bach-like licks.
I also like writing battle music, if you couldn't tell already. A Different League was to be the 'normal' boss theme for this project. (also, Forbidden Forlae leitmotif :3)
lordy you set this up quickly wowow
OOOH THIS IS HYPE
Another song for the OHR project. I'll post a couple of these for a few days, because I think this was the first time I felt like I was understanding the process of naturally working structure into a song without really thinking about it.
This was a theme for an ancient, mystical ruin.

I dunno wtf ozone_status_check means but I assume it was named this because it's "blue sky"
I love when the loss of basic site functionality is so cute and whimsical!
Anyway my 30 day video streak is broken because I can't upload videos right now :(
Ah yes. The gender equivalent of having ??? on my lifebar where my level would normally be
This very same post, but underneath it says “There was an error fetching posts.”

It's been long enough that I can confidently say I won't be making the prologue into its own game anymore, so here's some NPC sprites I made for the Aster prologue concept that I still really like!
I’ve had this same feeling writing Coruncopia, but maybe it’s a sign you’re onto something when the world begins to rhyme with the stories in your head :3
