When utilities raise rates, profits go up. When profits go up, CEOs get bonuses. Meanwhile, families in places like West Virginia are taking out loans to pay $900 energy bills.
This cycle doesn’t end until we demand real accountability.

Our mission at Utility Action Alliance is simple: make utility companies as unpopular as they deserve to be.
People need to know exactly who’s making their bills harder to afford.
Horrendous behavior amid skyrocketing profits: "Utilities shut off power to customers across the country 13.4 million times in 2024."

💡3 in 4 Americans are worried about where their utility costs are headed.
They should be. Utilities requested nearly $31 billion in rate hikes in 2025 alone, more than double the year before.
It shouldn’t be controversial to say that no one should be forced to choose between paying their utility bill and putting food on the table.
🚩 "without standard regulatory review." 🚩

A reminder that LIHEAP helps millions of low-income households survive extreme heat and cold.
Trump wants to wipe it out while asking for $1.5 trillion in military spending.
The priorities could not be clearer.
Somewhere right now, a family in PA is choosing between paying their power bill & putting food on the table.
Meanwhile, Exelon's CEO took home $15.6 million last year.
And PECO just filed for another rate hike.
We'll never stop talking about this.
"[Residents] are angry over soaring utility costs that **eclipsed rents and mortgages** this winter in one of the most energy-rich, yet poorest, corners of America."

We started Utility Action Alliance because this industry has gone unchecked for far too long.
Utilities wield enormous power and face far too little scrutiny.
That only changes when people speak out and push back.
Utility companies be like: sorry about the bill… anyway, here’s another one.
Utility CEO's raked in over $530 million.
And they still had the nerve to raise your rates.

Utilities want you to believe rate hikes are unavoidable. They are not.
What IS avoidable: charging customers for corporate branding, lobbying, lawsuits, and executive lifestyle expenses.
Strip out the corruption, and your bill could look a whole lot different.
"Rising household electricity prices and controversy over data centers are reshaping low-profile elections for control over utilities that build power plants & power lines — and bill people for the cost.
[O]nce-sleepy contests are becoming political brawls." Damn right.

Utilities requested double the rate increases in 2025 that they did in 2024.
If that feels unsustainable, that’s because it is.
Our leaders need to get serious about holding utilities accountable.
Indiana regulators launched an affordability-themed listening tour after grilling the state’s “big five” utilities. That alone tells you how serious the frustration has become.
People are fed up & the usual utility excuses are wearing thin.

Happy Friday to everyone except @pepcoconnect.bsky.social's CEO, who looked at sky-high electric bills and said: have you tried unplugging your toaster?

The CEO of Exelon, of PECO's parent company, hauled in more than $15.6 million in 2025. Now, they are asking for higher rates AGAIN. Enough is enough!

If utility companies wanted to pull a real April Fools' prank, they’d send you an affordable bill.
That would shock everyone.
CUB Michigan said, "The MPSC didn't grant Consumers Energy the full extent of its rate hike request, but still, the 6.1% residential rate increase approved today is much higher than the rate of inflation."
This is still a major loss for MI families already stretched thin by rising energy costs.
Utility accountability belongs at the center of political debate. If leaders want power, they should be ready to answer tough questions about who they're really fighting for.

Utilities spending your bill money on lobbyists to fight lower energy costs is actually | i n s a n e | when you think about it.
A utility bill is not supposed to feel like a punishment.
But that’s exactly what happens when essential services get treated like a machine for generating profits instead of something people need to survive.
At Utility Action Alliance, we believe accountability is possible & that public pressure can change even the most entrenched systems.

Trump is paying companies $1B to NOT produce clean energy: it's like we're in the upside down?!
Your reminder that investor-owned utilities pocketed nearly $186 billion in profits between 2021 & 2024 –
So no, people are not overreacting about their energy bills.
They’re reacting to a system that keeps taking more and giving nothing back.
A new report found about 1 in 6 U.S. households were behind on utility bills at the end of 2025.
That's millions of people trying to keep the lights on while costs keep climbing & relief falls short.
People are being asked to pay more every month while monopoly utilities protect profits and pass costs on to the public. That is not a fair deal.
Ratepayers deserve better.
