It’s a meme stock at this point.

LA Controller Mejia put his big social media presence to use squelching a reform committee proposal, which is still on the table.

Well, he’s half right.
Part 1 of my interview with CD11 Councilmember Traci Park, talking about her trial by fire.

2025 was a transformational and traumatic year for West LA, and it was a privilege to cover it. Onward!

Even if — as is the case with Venice Dell site — several working class families in rent-controlled apartments are going to be displaced?
Okay. But where does that end? Should the community be forbidden to weigh in on high-rise luxury apartments as well, even in single-family zoned neighborhoods?
FYI, “unsuitable” isn’t “unfeasible”. The CAO says a lot may be unsuitable because of “size, configuration, and the parking needs of the community”. 701 is triangular and brings in a lot of revenue, but if the Venice Dell site stays parked, could be suitable.
Huh. Lists a whole bunch of lots as “not suitable”, but doesn’t include criteria.
Looks like the same developer just opened 9 units nearby, with plenty of community support.

FWIW: Here’s my take on why this didn’t get built, while other projects did.
www.westsidecurrent.com/opinion/opin...
As Galperin put it, “Actual determinations about habitability and feasibility cannot be made until subject matter experts in departments such as the Bureau of Engineering conduct formal assessments.”
Lot 702 isn’t listed as “not feasible”.
By any chance are you referring to this list of suitable properties Galperin put out in 2022? If so, just because Lot 702 isn’t on it doesn’t mean it’s not suitable. He just didn’t include it.

The link to that study throws a 404 error. I’d love to see it.
$1.1 million per 425 sf unit, when there’s a cheaper option to build as many units 25 feet away?
Make it make sense.
FWIW, I’ve been covering this project for 8 years, during which time 120 affordable/PSH units have opened in Venice. This development is a disaster.
Venice Beach will take center stage at the 2028 Summer Olympics, as the site of the NBC Broadcast Center.

I haven’t seen a negative response to a proposed development from the VNC this unified in a while.

His next MRI?
Says here it was bought by a billionaire. Nothing about Democrats.
Is it a disqualifying conflict of interest for a city council member to also be working full time for a housing lobbyist? Santa Monica Jesse Zwick says no. But a bunch of his constituents are crying foul.
My latest.
FFS. This woman is certifiable. She may as well have said the flying monkeys from the Wizard of Oz.
It may not seem like much to those who don’t live nearby, but to the 1000s who used this route to get to Admiralty Park, the library and the Braude Bike Path, the closing of this entrance was a big deal. Now, CD11 CM Traci Park is working to reopen it.

Five years and $19.5 million later, work has finally begun to convert the Marina Del Rey Ramada into Homekey rooms.

My latest for the Current takes a detailed look at why LAHSA’s data on how many people are living on LA’s streets seems unreliable.

My latest for the Current, looking back at 5 years of reporting. The first amendment is everything.
Many people are outraged that Trump is demolishing part of the White House. But of course Trump can't do it without help. It's ACECO LLC of Silver Spring MD ("full-service demolition") that is tearing down the People's House. You can call them and let them know how you feel. 1/
The sudden appearance of all these Trump administration accounts on Bluesky is ominous. They're not here in good faith and they're not here to troll.
They're setting something up. It likely has to do with a coming attack on Bluesky.
FWIW: Pandora is great, the interface is much more usable and near as I can tell they don’t insert fake music into their playlists in order to avoid royalties (yes, that’s a thing).
Wait. Isn’t this on par with what they’re accusing Bolton of?
