‘I don’t let bullies win’ Ilhan Omar says after attack, as Trump says he will ‘de-escalate’ in Minneapolis – US politics live President had mocked congresswoman hours before she was sprayed with unknown substance during a town hall event The Ecuadorian government has said that a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent attempted to enter its Minneapolis consulate on Tuesday, but was prevented from coming in by staff working at the building. This has prompted Ecuador’s government to send a formal protest note to US authorities “so that acts of this nature are not repeated at any of Ecuador’s consular offices in the United States.” Continue reading...

Babies And Bills: Child Birth Is Throwing Women Into Medical Debt In Record Numbers A recent study found that one in four new mothers are thrown into medical debt after giving birth, which is even true for some families who are fully insured.

Every politician who has ever called themselves “pro-life” needs to get working on making labor, birth, and neonatal care free. Survey showed 1 in 4 women went into medical debt after giving birth. www.forbes.com/sites/maiaho...

Chris Murphy: "There will be pretty substantial damage to a Dem brand that has been rehabilitated if on the heels of an election in which the people told us to keep fighting, we immediately stop... if we surrender without having gotten anything, I worry it'll be hard to get them back up off the mat"

One of about ten zillion reasons it’s insulting to all of humanity that the anti-abortion movement calls itself “pro-life”

OBGYNs Sent ‘Highly Biased’ Survey By Group That Targeted Abortion Pills A group of anti-abortion doctors claims it’s researching the “moral and professional complexity” of abortion. Their study raises red flags following other junk science and retractions.

NEW: Last week, some OBGYNs received a strange survey via email. The email used inflammatory terms like "dismemberment" and "feticide," and the survey website suggested affiliation with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. ACOG tells Autonomy News it sent a cease and desist:

No surprise that the suspect in the assassination of the Minnesota House Democratic leader and her husband and the attempted assassination of a state senator and his wife was also out to get abortion rights supporters.

Hi! I specialize in medication toxicity. All available, real-world data has proven mifepristone is actually even safer than many over the counter medicines.

Mortality rates:

Mifepristone: 0.65/100,000
Penicillin 2/100K
Viagra 4/100K

Pregnancy in the US: 22/100,000 (some states see rates >60/100K)

Trump announces travel ban on 12 countries and partial restrictions for 7 others Trump framed the new restrictions, which primarily target African and Asian countries, as necessary to fortify national security and combat terrorism.

I’m sick of this regime using antisemitism to justify racist policies. This travel ban is about keeping Black and brown people out which is rooted in racism. It won’t protect Jews—it fuels resentment and puts us in more danger, leading to more violence like what happened in Boulder.

I think we’ve reached a boiling point when it comes to ICE.

Today in Minneapolis, a militarized task force raided the beloved Lake Street taqueria, Las Cuatro Milpas—and the community was not having it.

Agents from ICE, the DEA, FBI, ATF, IRS and HHS rolled up looking like they were ready for war.

This is upsetting and outrageous. I brought together 18 contributors and an artist for our anthology on menopause and raised all the money to make publishing it possible. It came out in UK, Ireland & Europe in Match. Contributors were paid. I haven’t received any money.

The best later abortion reporting I’ve ever read. Thank you @amylittlefield.bsky.social for lifting up our patients and staff in such a tender, respectful way, and for calling out the terrible political decisions that got us viability bans.

What Would It Mean to Defend All Abortions? Democrats love to avoid it, and Republicans love to lie about it. But later-abortion care has never been more important.

Stirring and beautiful piece on the people repro groups leave behind by supporting viability limits on abortion.

So-called “compromises” lead to forced births, like that of a California woman turned away after raising thousands and flying across the country. Read @amylittlefield.bsky.social:

sceeenshot from The Nation: A 29-year-old with light skin and dark hair walks down the hall at Partners, sobbing. She flew here from California, one of the 22 states in the country that ban abortion at or around
"viability." In 2022, 67 percent of California voters backed a referendum that blocks the state from interfering in a patient's pregnancy decisions, but a state law banning most abortions after viability still stands.
So the patient in the hallway faced a grueling journey from one of the nation's bluest states.
First she had to raise close to $20,000 to pay for the abortion itself. At least 90 percent of Partners' uninsured patients cobble this funding together from abortion funds and clinic discounts. Yet by the time she made her decision, raised the money, and flew to Maryland, an ultrasound had put her well past Partners' limit.

“Later abortion is banned in all but nine states and Washington DC, and performed in only a handful of clinics nationwide.” Viability bans lead to stories like this, which will only become more frequent if the Trump admin restricts medication abortion for early care
