We usually read about elderly people being scammed with 'digital arrest' ploy. But here's a reverse - an 81-year-old father saves his 35-year-old son from the scam because the former had attended a senior citizens' cyber awareness session!
The only newspaper to openly and directly denounce the disgusting and shameful act of the election commission colluding with BJP to give a free pass to the PM to abuse state media machinery anyway he wants.
😳
The Economic Times couldn't muster courage to denounce the PM for trivializing a grave social issue like female foeticide for mere political rhetoric and for abusing state media machinery for election campaigning in violation of model code of conduct?
Intimidation is the new civic currency. Under BJP's so-called Ram Rajya, goons and louts are not just emboldened to intimidate fellow citizens - they also film themselves doing it and CC the home minister, without any repercussions.
"Although today’s billionaires are clearly manipulating society to maximize their own profit, these men no longer feel the need to change the world in order to succeed, because their success is guaranteed, no matter what happens to the rest of us". www.theatlantic.com/magazine/202...
Well-played, Asics!
"Why is the government fighting shy of making this (50% across-the-board increase) a part of the Bill? If it is left to the Delimitation Commission, it will be easy to change the formula at whim."
BJP created a near-perfect heads-I-win, tails-you-lose dynamic:
1. If the 2026 bills passed, BJP claims "We delivered what no one could. Vote for us as reformers".
2. If it didn't: "Opposition is evil, anti-women, blocked 33% for sisters/mothers. Vote for us, defeat them".
"Why a special session of Parliament was convened in the midst of Assembly elections to hastily pass a highly contentious Constitutional amendment?"
An 8pm national address appealing for peace, given this prolonged lack of peace, and outlining the government's honest efforts towards it? But not enough electoral benefits in doing so? Or, no rival parties to abuse and posture BJP as God's own children?
🎯
"Now that every party is on board with carving out a 33% quota for women within the existing 543 seats, will the Centre move to implement this in time for the 2029 polls?"
Is China not a part of this "world"? Ola tried this spin earlier.
Trust a cartoon to expose the charlatan and his cohort in the simplest manner possible.
Progressively worsening things in India that Modi thinks is unworthy of an 8pm/8:30pm national address during peak election period. Why? Because he cannot blame anyone else and cast them as evil and plead people to vote for BJP.
Clever ad!! On a day when almost every single ad in the newspaper exhorting people to buy gold, Godrej's ad goes in the opposite direction, but with a product-specific context :)
"India does not need a bigger Parliament. It needs a better, braver, busier one—one that sits longer, studies deeper, scrutinises sharper and serves sincerely. In the name of representation, India’s political elite have signalled their institutional greed on an unprecedented scale"
Feels too real. Every office has lived this exact email thread 😂 I first thought Brian's email was a printing mistake, but eventually figured it was fully intentional and then LOLd at Rudolph's reaction 😆
I hope Aditya Dhar has been briefed for a movie on women's reservation bill (not 2023, which was passed, but the spurious charade of 2026 which failed) so that it can be released in time for 2029 general elections. His movie on One Nation One Election is also due anyway.
"The scene in A Midsummer Night's Dream when Titania falls head over heels in lust with a working-class yokel half-transformed into a donkey... raised the same laughs in Stratford-upon-Avon as it did in a village in Tamil Nadu to an audience who'd mostly not have understood the text being spoken"
"During the 2023 debate, the Opposition parties had argued for an immediate operationalisation of the Act without waiting for a Census and delimitation. The government had not budged then". Now, BJP puts drama just to fool people and win elections.
"It feels surreal that we are having this global conversation about civilisation, stuck between an Iranian regime that ruthlessly imprisons and executes thousands of dissenters and an American president who seems to pick war on a whim while the elite of the elite show up in the Epstein files"
The so-called civilized humans are the truly diabolical, "wild" animals 😡
Truly diabolical and abominable spin, hoodwinking the election commission (from which people don't expect anything, anyway - gone case), and all the people of this country that BJP presumes to be completely brainless fools.
More of, 'They are all evil. We are God's chosen children who worship women 24 hours every single day. They are all bad people. Vote only for us, ok? We supported women, they are anti-women, dark-hearted people. We're pure, they are impure. Jai Trump Maharaj Ki'?
"If proportional increase was always the intent, why was it not in the Bill? Why the haste to push through a controversial constitutional amendment when the 2026-27 Census is still under way? The bizarre smoke-and-mirrors approach made a mockery of the parliamentary process".
The bill: The Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026
The newspapers that toed BJP's line (and fell for BJP's electoral ploy, the very point of RUSHING this bill) and called it 'Women's Quota Bill' (or similar framing) and the newspapers that did not.
