A watercolor painting of a galleon on a smooth ocean. The sky is vivid shades of orange to pink and the water is dark with a streak of color under the sun from reflection of the sky. The galleon is facing us and its sails are stowed.

I've spent a couple months learning the bare basics of character art on Krita. So go easy on me. I only just got the hang of shading. Gotta learn highlighting next. Happy #PortfolioDay! π

Writing Tip:
You're going to make a mistake. A big one. That's okay! Everyone does. But you won't notice it because it's in your writer's blind spot. We all have one of those too, even if not everyone admits it. This is why editors that aren't you are so important.

That's where I'm leaning, yeah.
Saw this post about pearls dissolving in vinegar and immediately thought "Dang that looks delicious."

Well, character art, anyway. Calling them illustrations might be a stretch. At least I can say I made every part of it and not some chatbot.
And now for the hard part:
Do I self-publish my novel asap and just see how it does?
Or do I spend 3-6 months waiting to hear back from publishers...?
Cus, dang, I've already mocked up all its illustrations myself. π€·ββοΈ

This is a series of romance stories if you can believe. Bad relationships getting replaced with good ones. Thus the title, "Rebounds in Ricochet."
I'll send you a link the moment it's published somewhere! π

I am! I want to self-publish my books, but I can't afford an illustrator, so I'm learning to draw my own stuff with Krita.
Top to bottom: a waitress with a vat-grown gun, a debugger with a clockwork heart, a bomb-maker who wins an election he doesn't remember entering, an out-of-work electrician looking for crime gigs, and a 15-foot-tall farm girl newly arrived to the weirdest city on earth.
Artwork for my novella anthology, set in the electric city of Ricochet. Class warfare, mad nobles, crazed cops, rigged elections, space aliens, machine cultists, and a non-euclydian subway system.

Starting to understand why animated shows usually avoid drawing every individual tooth in somebody's mouth.
Book of Hours. It's an occult librarian simulator where you help not-quite-normal visitors find books and occasionally throw luncheons.
Hegseth addressing the troops.
Pitching my heist novella anthology as "something like Pulp Fiction without the timeline jumping around." Bouncing back and forth chronologically feels beyond my capabilities (for now).
Shoulder Pixie: "keep working on illustrations for your novels so you can publish them already!"
Shoulder Demon: "try drawing some smut"
My attempts at illustrating my own books have a "just graduated from futzing around on Microsoft Paint" quality.
I hope the "barely knows what she's doing" quality of my drawings will help advertise the humanity behind my "kind of knows what she's doing" writing.

If anything, I'm hoping the "barely knows what she's doing" quality of my illustrations will help advertise the humanity behind my "kind of knows what she's doing" writing.
Character art of an older man with gray fox vibes, a wealthy well dressed count in a library, smirking, shaded, villain coded.
Character art of The Count, villain of my first novel. Affable, eager to teach, eager to learn, and ready to slaughter millions for just a bit more power. Owns a lot of dangerous magical books; doesn't know how to use them until the heroine accidentally teaches him how.

I illustrated two characters from my novel today, in hopes of self-publishing. I'm counting that as a form of trans visibility.

Two pieces done in one day. I'm quite proud of myself. π
A golden glowing pixie with starry eyes and twigs in her hair bun.
Character art of Polly, high-strung pixie, de facto shoulder angel for my novel's heroine (for lack of better options). Rationalizes every decision made as the morally correct one, no matter how ridiculous. Probably causes more damage than the shoulder demon overall.

Character art of a horrible, gremlin-like, imp-like, monkey-like, bloody stool-like monster. Razor sharp grin. Clutching a bottle of something labelled Cobra Tonic.
My character art for Severe, a manifestation of chaos and the heroine's de facto shoulder demon.
Fluffy, scaley, boney, pointy, exhausting, pyromanic, probably vomits up spiders or something.
Drawn with Krita.
