in the case of nutrition you have to put together information. Animals studies pretty consistently show "Western" diets are associated with poor outcomes. Most longitudinal studies show the same thing. Ice cream doesn't really fit in that picture. So why does it come up? Reverse causal? Cultural?

nutritional data is often NOT causal and there are some weird associations probably attributable to other things.
