I have two modes: 1) when traveling by myself, I prefer to walk up to the gate as the boarding starts, but 2) when traveling with my family we get to the airport hours early

Cover of report "Mission Aborted: how NASA illegally implemented the president's budget request without congressional approval. Minority staff report, prepared by members of the committee on science, space, and technology, us house of representatives, April 2026
This report came out today by minority staff of the House science committee on how three NASA missions were aborted due to NASA illegally following the FY26 president's budget request instead of congressionally approved budget. Very important reading. 🔭🧪 democrats-science.house.gov/staff-report...
It’s nice feeling like a regular at a restaurant: the host/server asks if you want your typical order and (when confirmed) doesn’t bother with the menu
A clear rainbow stretches diagonally across the photo, with trees in the foreground
Beautiful, bright rainbow!

Excellent choice! 🎉
And now back to sleep 😴
Dutifully sitting in my basement while the thunderstorm (and tornado warning) passes by 🥱⛈️
That sometimes if you’re waiting somewhere (especially if outside), instead of looking at your phone you should try just looking at the world around you and watch people and/or nature do their thing

And we still do

I also get annoyed by ‘hallucinating’ because it implies it’s sometimes making stuff up and sometimes not.
To be clear, it’s *always* making stuff up - it’s just that sometimes that stuff resembles reality more closely than other times
It has no idea if what it’s generating is right or not.
Congratulations!
AND it’s not an easy problem to “fix”, in the sense that institutions can’t just hand you money to cover extra childcare costs… there’s still a bunch of extra effort required to arrange everything. (Sorry for spewing, but I guess I still have feels leftover from how hard this is/was.)
Really really hard without nearby family / close friends who are willing and able to help, and/or a partner with a flexible schedule
Oof, yes. And trying to find a nanny/babysitter for every afternoon, but just one week is: a) a lot of work, b) hard to schedule with just one person, c) something that you’ll have to do all over again in a few months when you have your next trip
Whatever impression you already have of her, I promise she’s even better the more you get to know her 🤩
FYI if you’re talking about the #Artemis II mission and you want to get the spaceflight terminology right, the mission is “crewed,” not “manned.” (NASA made the terminology change official decades ago, so this isn’t new, but a lot of folks just aren’t aware.)
My friend (who’s name also happens to be Emily) had those! They were amazing 🤩 … sorry to brag?
It’s a real Monday of a Monday. I set my alarm to wake up early for a meeting that didn’t exist, attempted to drive to work in a car that wouldn’t start, and [redacted because personnel stuff … no, I didn’t spell personal wrong]. All before noon 😣
