I shot this 1999 image of Mistress Marilyn in Chicago in an empty storefront. The space provided an abundance of natural light and plenty of dirty store fixtures. In this photo, she’s behind a dirty glass door that was in desperate need of cleaning. This photo was made by a human artist with an analog Mamiya 645 medium format camera. I processed the negatives in my own darkroom. Also, the model is 100% human and her appearance has not been digitally manipulated.

the contrast in your skin tones is surprisingly obvious in this one

A woman with shoulder-length dark wavy hair sits on weathered stone steps during golden hour. She wears an oversized knit sweater in muted earth tones and a simple gold bracelet. Warm sunlight catches the edges of her hair and illuminates one side of her face. Her expression is calm and steady… present, grounded, quietly resolute. Her hands rest gently in her lap. The stone steps behind her are rough and aged, rising upward into soft, warm light. The shallow depth of field keeps the focus entirely on her.

Recovery has never been about measuring the distance between where you were and where you are. That narrative… the “how bad it got” story… keeps too many people waiting for permission to change. Waiting until things get worse. Waiting until the pain qualifies.
The truth is simpler. Growth starts at the exact moment you recognize the old way stopped working. Maybe that moment looks dramatic. Maybe it looks like a quiet Tuesday where something just shifted. Both are valid. Both are real.
Every woman carries her own threshold. Her own line where enough became enough. Honoring that… without comparison, without ranking suffering… is where real recovery lives.
She’s sitting on those steps because she chose to stop climbing someone else’s staircase. The light is already on her.

Recovery isn’t measured by how far you climbed from “rock bottom”
Some never make it there.
We hit our own wall…
Our own threshold.
Growth starts when you decide the old way stopped working.
Your pain is valid at every level.

So if you wouldn't say it to her face, don't say it here. It's all the same.

honestly, I don't think you would. You might dream that you've got the confidence to say it, but I suspect you'd chicken out when the response might be you being slapped. It's easy when you're anonymous behind a keyboard.

that's a good rule - I don't push a model's levels and in many ways the level of modesty is their choice.

They act to placate the press and vocal minorities, delivering nothing of consequence, while avoiding anything that's difficult because they want to stay elected.

I honestly don't know if hashtags make a massive difference here. I use them out of habit (and lack of imagination).

Would you really say that to her face? Are you that brave?

I’m hoping that’s just a poor translation, because in English, that’s not very polite.

Lilith - Art nude tends to shy away from the female genitalia. Almost like they're distasteful. Anyway, these are maybe a bit more glam, but let's not be afraid of a naked body. @lilithetch.bsky.social #glamour #artnude #fineartnude #nudeart #photographer #lovemyimagenotmycaption

So, if it's not obvious, I rarely give permission to reproduce my work (there are exceptions!). Do so with my permission and you'll find how easily a DMCA-takedown works (or legal action for copyright infringement).

Find and book your own model. Learn about lighting, posing and composition. And experience that little bit of social interaction that's part of the process. If you can't do that, describe yourself accurately: you're a *copier*. >>>

I can only admire the skill it takes to copy a photograph, but let's be honest, regardless of the skill involved, it is just a copy. Is the art not in the original? It's my use of light, it's my interaction with the model, my choice of angles and composition, etc. that created the image. >>>

I don't think many photographers would take a photograph of another photographer's work and post it as their own (ignoring the blatant copyright infringements). So why do "artists" think it's ok to reproduce someone's photograph in their own medium? >>>

Some art to help us look away for just a moment. But, after taking a breath, we need to rid our planet of the crazy politicians and stop the genocide.
