Just finished writing on Thucydides and Plutarch. It’s a draft so needs a polish but still cause for a small celebration! Heading for a coffee and taking a breath.

The image shows a small, rounded, purple glass vessel in the shape of a pomegranate fruit displayed against a light grey background. The display lighting enhances the translucent purple glass which replicates the colour of a ripe fruit. There is some encrustation dotted around the body of the vessel and around the calyx which has one lobe missing. Height 6.9 cm (2.7 in), Diameter 6.6 cm (2.5 in). Probably used as a container for perfumed oil.

For New Year’s Day 2026, a hellenistic glass vase shaped like a pomegranate. 2nd century BC - 1st century AD.

A symbol of abundance and good luck for the year ahead!

A close up image of an ancient pot with a large octopus painted on in black with it's tentacles all curled around it.

This jar stands at an impressive height of 75 cm. The painted decoration depicts an octopus, swimming in an abstract seascape. The jar comes from the Minoan palace at Knossos, on the island of Crete, and was created in the 15th century BCE.

The house is lovely just to visit and the events are wonderful. I went to the gin tasting and Georgian history talk last night and it was terrific. Would recommend!

Triple checking my chapter proofs this evening so Thucydides is back out on the table. It’s my first post PhD thing and I had forgotten that feeling before pressing ‘send’ on the final version of something.
