One of my favourite bits of jazz lore is that in 2002 a jazz fan tracked down Henry Grimes, the bassist here, and found him working as a school janitor. He didn't have a bass anymore. People banded together and got him a bass, and he spent the final years of his life touring and recording again.
Nice, isn't it? The quiet.
No more New Labour drama? Wrong
No, more New Labour drama!
That's brutal, I'm sorry. Solidarity from Essex, we are going through the same thing.
I think you'd be surprised how important accounting rules are to structural discrimination - accounting is hugely political and a real site of political struggle, just not a very theatrical one.
AI bros: whyyyyy do people not all love our product? Probably they're too stupid & backwards to understand it!
Also AI bros: FINALLY, CEOs! A Prole Replacement that you don't have to pay any wages to, will never say no & will never call HR on you! We've presented it as a young woman for some reason
What a most excellent cat. I love black cats. Why they tend to be overlooked at shelters, I’ll never know.
This is right, but I'd go further: winning the domestic argument on the free movement of people is what's needed to unlock anything further than the reset. That means Starmer has to repudiate many of his own arguments on migration.

Love the Eastern bloc style of this - food appears authentically old fashioned too.
Both readers of Freud, I imagine!
The old houses were built on wooden stilts pushed into the ground… they rotted many years ago. Method is still used but no longer using wood.

It's an incredible art form but it's held back by the institutional bias towards famous old works. It's also disproportionally expensive for an art form that is mostly publicly funded, not helped by some eye watering salaries at the top. It's not for me but I want a world that has opera in it.
Mark Dubowitz @mdubowitz Sharif University of Technology is not just Iran’s top engineering school. It is a talent pipeline for missile, cyber, and dual-use military programs tied to the regime and IRGC. Pretty interesting chain of logic which, if applied in the inverse, would functionally legitimate airstrikes on everyone in Israel or the US
we are in the kinds of times where a strong government could easily justify such measures, bypassing political opposition and entrenched capital interests

It was spring of 2026, the year World War 3 broke out. People began injecting themselves with the fat of corpses in order to achieve the requisite sculpted physique. Thinking was largely offset to machines, powered by the final dregs of the planet's water. Vogue pronounced it Year of the Cabbage.
Amazing track
Funny, he doesn’t appear to dwell on Council approving exploitative investment contracts for accommodation blocks which directly led to the decision to close the Southend campus. Someone else’s strategic oversight, I’m sure.
Here’s a spicy little thread…
I moved to the UK in 2008. Relatable.
Nigerian Guinness, or this bad boy
Ann Wilson, what a voice!
I agree - add the PR industry, corporate law and the think tank circuit to your list of permeable spaces for apparatchiks.
The 1% who rule the world may have turned the pursuit of money and power into a kind of pathological game that are ends in themselves, but for the rest of us, having money, having an income, being free from debt, has come to mean having the power to pursue something other than money. We all want to ensure our loved ones are safe, and taken care of. We all want to live in healthy and beautiful communities but beyond that, the things we wish to pursue are likely to be wildly different. What if freedom were the ability to make up our minds about what it was we wished to pursue, with whom we wished to pursue it and what sort of commitments we wish to make to them in the process?" David Graeber
Imagine people could make up their own minds about what it was that they would pursue.
Yellow, by Coldplay.
His jaw seems rather tight. It's probably nothing.
