My art was never really successful on tumblr so I never got into it and truly understood the comment culture there. 😅
But I can understand from your descriptions why people value it.

I absolutely get that. Every time someone comments on my art I feel very honored because someone put in the effort while I know how much energy it sometimes costs me to do the same.

But obviously with a digital medium where you don't see the reaction of the people agreeing with you probably some acknowledgement would add value to the initial writer.
I just always assumed that a repost or like would be an "oh yes, I agree".

Sometimes I just repost stuff I think is perfectly well said and I don't want to add my silly two cents to it when I have nothing of value to add.
Probably I've been traumatised in school by "I want to repeat what X" said students too much. 😅

The war still goes on, in fact it has been going on since 2014 not 2022. russians still kill, rape, torture Ukrainian people, destroy our cities and do everything in their power to erase our nation from this world.

Four years ago I woke up at 5 am from distant explosions. I asked my boyfriend if he heard them too, he said he didn’t and I should go back to sleep. I tried to calm myself down, went on the internet, it was silent, no news or explanations.

As much as I love some good art prints I don't like the notion that we all have to become merch sellers to live off our art. It's an entirely different line if work, again. I actually just want to do art and maybe merch sometimes. And not being a full on merch factory.

We pay for netflix or spotify to be entertained, why not for some artists who entertain us online? (Definitely more money will end up feeding the artist than through netflix or spotify)

And even if it was the case (and you didn't also have to do a shitton of marketing which is the same "begging"): not everyone needs prints. There's not an endless need for merch. And an artwork does not gain worth only by being printed on a physical medium.

Also no matter how good your art is, how ist it supposed to "pay itself"? Either you work for clients and then you do the art they pay for and not really YOUR art or you have some insane connections to galleries and rich people who want to buy your art. It's not really a quality issue.
