E. L. Doctorow and quote: "Good writing is supposed to evoke sensation in the reader - not the fact that it is raining but the feeling of being rained upon."

Your novel writing is part of your mental health. You are the first and most important reader of your novel. Your novel is you in intimate conversation with yourself. Re-reading your novel across the writing process can offer comfort and support.

Elementary school homework with the alphabet at the top. The question says: imagine you are a wizard with a magic wand. What kind of spells would you cast? What magical things would you do?

A child's handwritten answer: If I was a wizard I would make life easy. because there will be no wars and no crimenals. I will disapear every bad guy in the world so no one will get hurt.

There is a drawing of a blue sky, a yellow sun, a black wizard with a wand in his hand, and a crowd of people. There's a caption bubble with the wizard saying no wars, and a caption bubble over the crowd that says everybody cheers

If you don't read you won't be able to write well. You need to consume a variety of genres to write effectively and craft a well-rounded story.

This is a simple fact.

If you never read, your writing will be flat and unengaging.

Activism can take many forms. For creators like writers and artists, the ability to create is radical in itself. The forces against activism want you upset and silenced. Be defiant. Write and avoid the wagging dogs. Your words are the solace of many, ease the way.

You can challenge your own writing brain by switching from keyboard to pen at any time to explore how your own writing alters based on your method. Hand writing bends more toward art in practice and may change how you visualize your words in your head.

You aren't writing your novel because it is ground breaking. It likely is NOT. You are writing because you have voice that desires to tell a story. That story will join hundreds or thousands of other stories but no two will be the same. Just some similarities.

I also encourage writers to write poetry.

Don't get wound up by writing good poetry. It is perfectly fine to write lousy poetry.

What really happens is that once you start writing, your brain will create its own challenges to improving it. Words on page.
