Whiplash from the happiness of seeing the Blazers win a playoff game right to anti-trans crap from Dudley. Way to kill the happy, man.

Last September, anxiety was spreading in one of Portland's most prominent scientific research operations, with rumors of layoffs on the horizon. Last week, it became official: The Knight Cancer Institute is slashing dozens of jobs. Fifty-nine people were "impacted by the reductions in force." News of the cuts, focused in the center's research operations, comes less than a year after the institute announced a mighty $2 billion windfall from the Nike fortune of Phil and Penny Knight. But leaders at OHSU, which is tied to the institute, say the Knight cash was earmarked for new programs-rather than for keeping already-existing ones afloat. Read more.
This one really hurts:
The blind spot of all billionaire philanthropists: they want to support new projects, and existing ones are expected to “become self-sufficient.” When I try to ask how we are expected to do that in a space that needs grant funding:

I will riot. This was the happiest day of my school year as a book-loving kid who had an allowance and saved a little of it just for the Book Fair Day.
I’m just over here trying to protect the right NOT to have to drive in a city that already claims it’s so great for bikes and walking and transit but underfunds and dismisses all of it.
It’s not just the men themselves killing their families. It’s the rise of the “manosphere”, it’s the suffocating patriarchy killing these families too. www.thecut.com/article/shre...

All federal wind power R&D at the Department of Energy is $0.137 billion. So the government is paying 7x the amount it spends on all wind power R&D just for a fee to kill one wind project. Seems bad.

They don’t see the blistering irony. They’re never going to get it.
I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.

Ope.
Yes I did just spend 100$ on precisely 8 items at New Seasons. But in my defense, I had a bunch of Bottledrop cash to soften the gut punch of what two nice steaks cost now. #10dollarbanana

Trump is reported close to a "deal" with himself under which US taxpayers would pay him $10 billion.
I served in multiple communist and authoritarian dictatorships, but I never witnessed corruption on this scale or this blatant.
The Department of Energy canceled 321 grants worth $7.5 billion last October. Every single one was in a state that voted against the President. Not a single project in a red state was touched.
This week, I asked Energy Secretary Wright a simple question: why?

Yep. I know from personal reviews that at least two of the grants they’re claiming are “retained” closed out over a year ago. heatmap.news/politics/wri...

This is why we need to remove healthcare from employment. This system is singularly bad.

In February, HUD proposed a new federal rule blocking “mixed status” families from living in publicly subsidized housing, which could cause an estimated 80,000 people to lose their homes, including about 37,000 children, nearly all of them U.S. citizens.
