An American kestrel perched on top of a telephone pole. It’s a smol raptor. Very cute. Very deadly
the cutest little killer 🪶 I watched it catch and eat a grasshopper

i have never been a doomer. but i find a lot of insight and precision in this analogue to waves of succession in an ecosystem. kimmerer also talks about two types of catalysts that create gaps in that dominant society - the rapid disaster, and the gradual (re-)growth - so something new can grow.
i read a new favorite book today - i LOVED the serviceberry - and amidst all of its beautiful attention to community animated by giving / local interdependent gift economies, was kimmerer's description of colonizing nations as rapid, unsustainable new growth. the failure is coming. what comes after?
the totally disassociated, beyond-hyper-financialized, theft-as-a-service nation we're living in now.
1. This weekend, a federal judge permanently blocked funding threats to providers and hospitals that provide trans youth care.
The judge also blocked "any similar policy."
Hospitals have NO excuse and must return to providing care under many blue state laws.

“The Mohegan Tribe chose to invest in women’s basketball at a time when male billionaires refused. It’s ironic, then, that the WNBA is now prioritizing NBA owners when those very owners turned their back on the league two decades ago.”
so deeply admire tash's approach to community. damn.
Breaking: HHS’s ban on gender-affirming care is struck down. Rarely have I read a ruling this sharply worded.
“This case is one of a long list of examples of how a leader’s wanton disregard for the rule of law causes very real harm to very real people.”

mmmmm. yeah. I love the conversation between iris and her mom in the stairwell, in one of the final sequences. I feel like we tend to imagine resilience as being something so triumphant, not just a stubborn, imperfect ”we keep going“. their body language in that moment. just.. so powerful.
yesss. very well said.
to keep moving and to resist even as you are mired in intergenerational fuck ups, and the imperfection of political action. to resist and resist and resist.

A purple-coded clone curled up on a bed, with a big shark stuffie next to her. The text: “WATCHER: Sometimes your backpack isn’t big enough.”
In a red tinted basement, Watcher speaks with a giant pigeon, looking down patiently. The text: PIGEON PRIME: Humans. How nostalgic.”

my life has changed so much in the past 1.5 years - and yet! “there is a you that remains and remains and remains.” branches fork. transfer is lossy - we fit new things into our backpack, leave new things behind. so good. more crying this time lol

a bright, curious bedroom with yellow orange carpet, a fishbowl, a bed area with bult-in elements, and steps up to a giant exposed skylight roof
arnold listening to his discman on the couch, legs crossed, eyes closed, smiling, vibing.
from the perspective of the skylight, arnold relaxes with his eyes closed. in the frame - house plants, a toy dinosaur, a single sock.
from above the city, arnold's skylight bedroom in the foreground as apartment buildings of various heights and colors extend into the distance.
