NEW EP! To celebrate two years of Mean Streets and our 80th episode, we go back to our roots with what we call THE BIG SLEEP: THE VICKERS CUT (1946), the pre-release cut of this noir masterpiece. With special guest and friend of the show, @tippingmyfedora.bsky.social!

Hey #FilmNoir Fans! We are up and running for early bird passes for #FilmNoirFest 2026!
We will be announcing certain subjects in the coming few weeks; but for now, to get in early, we recommend booking your pass sooner rather than later: ti.to/film-noir-uk...
It's a great role for her (two, in fact) and I love the movie - but it is also a bit bananas, in a great way 😁

Melville's ARMY OF SHADOWS (1969) is a great if imperfect film, one that keeps changing for me with each viewing. My latest attempt to get to grips with this by turns over-long, eccentric and utterly gut-wrenching existential masterwork now on Letterboxd.
An extraordinary film, its mixture of beauty, melancholy and brutality remains utterly mesmerising and deeply unsettling.
Plus another fab essay by Sarah Morgan @sarahbabsmorgan
@hammerfilms.bsky.social’s 4K Blu-ray of Mantrap (1953) is fab. Along with commentary buddy @jamesmjharrison.bsky.social, an honour to be part of the extras with @pamhutch.bsky.social, @cerealatmidnight.com, @barryf48.bsky.social, @balanescumiriam.bsky.social et al.

I wish the Canal transfer were just a bit less green ... and I still don't think the journey to London and back needs to be quite so crazy slow and long. But such a powerful film.
Just did a re-watch yesterday!
Really chuffed to write about the goddess Kay Kendall in this lavish @hammerfilms.bsky.social edition of MANTRAP. Fellow contributors include noir experts @jamesmjharrison.bsky.social and @tippingmyfedora.bsky.social on the audio commentary
My contributor’s copy of @hammerfilms.bsky.social’s #BritNoir Mantrap (1953) has just landed.
Audio commentary by myself and partner in #FilmNoir crime Sergio Angelini (@tippingmyfedora.bsky.social). Plenty of great features on this release. Order your copy here: hammerfilms.com/products/man...
Now THAT is what we want to hear! Ta 👍
Does look lovely. Shall keep an eye out for the postie!
Excellent ❤️❤️
Time for SECONDS, surely ...
I reckon they've got a lot in common. My Dad always said that the problem with Paddington is that he doesn't smile. 😁
Not quite the same animal of course but ... 😁
Was super pleased to join Carolyn and Sarah of Tea, Tonic & Toxin @teatonicandtoxin.bsky.social for a chat about Christianna Brand's classic Golden Age mystery, Green for Danger. (See if I manage to smuggle in a few sneaky references to the 1946 movie version) teatonicandtoxin.com/podcast/gree...
Classic
Leiber was a terrific writer; this was his debut as a novelist and it really stands up. Well worth getting a copy.
