Another hidden cost of shunting the provision of public infrastructure onto private developers.
NDOT would not have accepted that work from a contractor who was working directly for them. A building inspector, who critically, is not steeped in public infrastructure all day must have missed it.

It should actually be politically scandalous to spend millions of dollars on a multi-year mobility study and then shelve those plans before the ink is even dry.
Especially when a major part of the mayor's campaign pitch was: put existing plans into action!
I would personally love to hear what the point of Connect Downtown actually was, if it was not in fact to begin delivering on the recommendations as soon as we had them in hand.
And if it was in fact to begin building out the recommendations, what in the world is stopping us?
If our bikes were as complete as our bike network
Forgot to mention that the route on Gallatin actually goes past lots of shops, pharmacies, grocery stores, restaurants, and bars. I bet I would stop at one or even a few on a typical trip home.
Instead, I get to enjoy the soothing sights of defunct industrial property to welcome me back East 😍
Safe route on Gallatin:
Gallatin > 10th > Woodland > zig zag through downtown
Route stats:
6.2 miles, 180' of EG, 233' of EL, 38 minutes per Google Maps, likely ~30 minutes real time
That's 20 fewer minutes commuting and a lot less range anxiety. I would probably bike 2x or 3x as often!
Current route:
Riverside > Porter > 14th > Davidson > Ped Bridge > Demonbruen
Route Stats:
8.1 miles, 276' of elevation gain (EG), 325' of elevation loss (EL), 49 minutes per Google Maps - it actually takes ~40 minutes inbound most days with the pedal assist
Just did the math on how much protected bike lanes / a safe bike route on Gallatin Pike would improve my bike commute:
I would save approximately 11 minutes each way, making it close to time-parity with driving on a good day.
The route flattens by ~30% and gets far simpler.

East Nashville bike lane status: STREWN
Common thread: fewer artists and high housing costs.
Luckily, there is an inexpensive solution to both problems! The longer it takes to upzone the county, the less of Nashville’s artistic culture will survive the process!
I’ve been scrolling the Aventon website all day 😅
FWIW, I would love to see that improve! Redesigning streets to make them beautiful almost always means making them safer too.
I’m all for harnessing that aesthetic appeal for transformative capital projects, but traffic calming ain’t that either. The posts look fine and improve safety!
Hard to take Nashvillians seriously when they talk about the importance of roadside aesthetics.
I might understand if Nashville was crisscrossed with renowned scenic routes and grand boulevards, but that’s just not the case. Some of the ugliest roadway conditions I’ve seen anywhere, tbh.
I was on a webinar not to long ago with a street design expert from Smart Growth America and he asked for an example of a Nashville intersection that could use some work. We offered up Harding & Nolensville and he let out an audible gasp and chuckle when he found it on the aerial map 😂
Amazing work!
Must be a real bummer to see the crappy plans that "nationally recognized planners" are putting out there for the East Bank Boulevard.
Street grids are magic. We should do more street grids.
Ellington spaghetti - probably won some sort of "throughput maximization" award in 1969.
The only one that is recognizable from space, or course!
They're called Waymos because they want to put Way Mo cars on your city streets
When is the last time you were driving around and thought to yourself: "I dunno, seems like we could use a few completely empty cars here to liven things up a bit"?
Nashville's Vision Zero Advisory Committee passed the attached resolution at last night's meeting. As Nashville prepares for this once-in-a-generation development, the Committee is calling on the city to prioritize human safety and transit efficiency over unnecessary vehicle capacity.

To be clear, I am not endorsing this behavior in any way. I am a happy convert to Drinking Water™️
Anecdotally, I did not consume just water by itself, on purpose, from the year ~1995-2012. There was a rare, occasional need to drink out of the big team water jug on particularly hot days on the ball field - but other than that, it was soda, Sunny D, Gatorade, Capri Sun, and Kool Aid for me!
Hell yeah
My “absorbs into your skin quickly” store descriptor has a lot of people asking questions that are answered by my store descriptor.
Friend, this is an annual experience. No need to feel the FOMO. They will stock up for next year's tournament, no doubt.
You’re allowed to sip some down while you’re standing at the pick up counter. They won’t even punish you for it.
My favorite college basketball team has won the Big Game
What a night!
Same… I was NOT gonna start googling it tho
PRECIENT!
Some dudes that rock just pulled out a football to toss it around in between margs at El Fuego the other night.
I’d never seen adults playing catch at a restaurant and it totally reset my mental model of where it’s acceptable to play catch. I’ll never be able to tell them how much they mean to me 🫡
How quickly we’ve graduated from an asshole to pits. We’ll be the back of the knee of America before you know it!
