Trauma is not defined by the event, but by the nervous system’s experience of it.
This is why trauma-informed care is critical for autistic individuals.
Education leads to prevention. 💙

Dr. King reminds us that silence in the face of injustice allows harm to continue. Abuse. Neglect. Assault. Mistreatment. Discrimination. These are not easy topics to hear or talk about, but that is precisely why we must.

Parties and gatherings increase the risk of elopement and drowning. Designate one adult to provide intentional supervision, and if a child or dependent with #autism goes missing, always #SearchWaterFirst.

Wandering/elopement is an exceptionally complex safety issue, and one that families and educators are doing their best to navigate.

Watching this brought tears. Thank you to the first responders who knew to #SearchWaterFirst. Families struggling with autism and extreme elopement are doing their absolute best, often under impossible circumstances. Lead with empathy.

An abstract, expressionistic painting depicting two stylized, stick-figure-like people, a taller adult figure and a smaller child figure, standing side-by-side and holding hands in a field of short orange and red flowers. The background is a mix of pale blue, teal, and gold abstract brushstrokes, giving the impression of a hazy sky or stylized light.
Far too many #autism families live in isolation to limit risk and avoid unsafe interactions. Recognizing this is the first step toward building safer, more inclusive communities.
