Science-folks: If we run 100 experiments, we might find 1 or 2 of them may have results that can make many dollars.
NZ Govt: Excellent. We will fund those 1 or 2 experiments.

I think a Bishop and McAnulty as leaders would spark up politics again. Might even be worth the wait
My thoughts exactly- the dissonance between the words and the delivery is huge
The fact that he read that statement word for word says everything - he just can’t show up and speak eloquently and passionately about his role and leadership of NZ. He is utterly bland. Could have been a brilliant opportunity for him to show spirit and drive. Instead he pushed everyone away
Something fitting about a party which has spent this term trashing Wellington at every opportunity being consumed today with internecine dramas, indifferent the city's attempts to dig itself out from a disaster.

Now,... would those be the school boilers that the previous govt had budgeted to phase out but incoming Finance Minister Nicola 'No Boats' Willis stopped and redirected the money to give tax cuts to landlords?
Just asking questions. 😏
EU: The European Union will require sale of mobile phones with “user-replaceable and longer-lasting batteries” starting in 2027.
The regulation demands “availability of spare parts and manuals for 10 years to curb planned obsolescence”.
Cartoon depicts a scene in a science laboratory. 'GOVT REDIRECTS AGRI-SCIENCE FUNDING - NEWS' Lab worker male: "What does it say?" CHATBOT on a computer screen: "Take funds from labs and give them to tech." Lab worker female: "Our funding is gone."

The Green Party says a national electrification plan is needed to build NZ’s energy security as, unlike oil shipments, wind and solar can’t be held up in the Strait of Hormuz.
Last week, its UK rival Shell said it anticipated “significantly higher” oil trading profits for the quarter. Analysts have been upgrading their profit forecasts, with the US bank Citi raising its estimate for BP by 20% to $2.6bn adjusted net income in the January to March quarter - despite flat oil and gas production.
We shovel $10bn per year into the pockets of offshore companies to buy fuel - and that was before prices went nuts. You could easily employ every unemployed young person in NZ for $10bn - and buy thousands of solar panels.
Reminder to donate a few hours if you can, 1000 people giving up when an hour is a massive amount of mahi
The right are heavily funded, the left need us to help them win✊🏻
Table next to me: “What do you think of Seymour? He’s pretty good isn’t he?” “Oh yeah. He’s pretty good. Really seems to care about the younger generation.” Me: oh you’re fucking joking (forgetting I wasn’t actually part of their conversation)
So great to see renewables plus batteries are collapsing power prices where they are rolled out at scale. The NZ Govt may be trying to reinvent the 1950s, with its love of expensive climate killing fossil fuels, but elsewhere history is moving on. www.newscientist.com/article/2514...
It was nice of Melania to get everyone talking about the Epstein Files again.
As for TOP, I think they’ll crack 5% and could end up king makers to the left
Also possible that is a smooth baton handover- all choreographed. I also wondered randomly whether the Bishop move was to free him up to take over the top role when it becomes available but for me the most likely is Willis. The fuel crisis is her chance to shine (or not…) ha Luxon delegates again!!
I think Natalia is absolutely right. I think Willis is ready for spilling Luxon - she’s lost weight, acting sharp and is taking the spotlight where she can. Personally don’t rate Willis but she is definitely hunting for a promotion

When the world is inexplicable, channel your inner absurdist and knit a lobster. His name is Langston and he is HILARIOUSLY floppy

Worth a watch - pretty grunty at times, there aren't many options for governments right now. But ultimately, there is only one way out and that is a dramatic reworking of the global economic system. youtu.be/Oi265I48MdI?...
I think he can also be awarded for having the largest impact on the global economy of any single human being
Happy birthday 🎉
What happens if Govt spending & bank lending slow down but taxation & loan repayments carry on destroying $? The wheel spins more slowly - that means lower profits, fewer jobs, lower consumption etc... which, in turn, reduces private sector confidence... borrowing reduces and... doom loop [7/n]
It needs $! People often think that our economy has a fixed pool of money that is passed eternally between workers, businesses, Govt etc. However, money *flows* through an economy. Money is 'born' when banks lend & Govt spend (money is *credit* - created by Govt or commercial banks). [5/n]
Latest tax data is depressing. The economy has stalled and we've got a recessionary wave coming towards us from overseas. Govt and their ghouls think the solution to global volatility and the widening gap between income & expenditure is to reduce spending! Why are they fking idiots? Read on. [🧵 1/n]
The big question is not so much about energy supplies but meta-power: who can control, politically exploit, and profit from energy supplies. Solar in particular threatens to de-commodify energy. And who wants that, except everyone who uses it?
