Havering Green Party Pledges Safer Cycling Havering Cyclists is delighted to learn that Mark Whiley, representing The Green Party in Havering, has pledged to support our call for a safe cycle network if elected at the upcoming local electio…

Sorry @londongreenparty.bsky.social, but someone needs to have a chat with your #Havering branch about at least sounding ambitious.

Their response to my email via the @londoncycling.bsky.social's election campaign doesn't exactly inspire me.

Something I've been thinking about is how safe streets advocates are treated as hysterical and dramatic for pointing out that drivers should stop killing us, yet the people fomenting a moral panic about e-bikes are treated as reasonable and their concerns are taken seriously.

Used cooking oil & animal fat for SAF?
UK road sector already uses more than we produce.
Diverting it to aviation (the least efficient user) just pushes demand for virgin palm oil elsewhere.
It’s not waste it’s musical chairs with forests.

A vertical bar chart titled “London has one of the lowest rate of road traffic deaths in the world.” The chart compares average road‑traffic deaths per 100,000 daytime population for multiple international cities from 2018–2020. Bars run horizontally from 0 to 8 on the x‑axis. At the top of the chart, Oslo has the lowest value, followed by Inner London highlighted in yellow at 0.8, then Zurich, Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Greater London highlighted in yellow at 1.1. Below these are Brussels, Bristol, Barcelona, Dublin, Montreal, Paris, Edmonton, Calgary, Warsaw, Milan, Vancouver, Greater Manchester, Lisbon, Melbourne, New York City, Auckland, Buenos Aires, Accra, Rome, Bogotá, Belgrade, Guadalajara, São Paulo, and Fortaleza. Cities at the bottom of the chart show the highest values, approaching 8. London is proving that sustained action on road safety delivers real change.

By investing in better junctions, safer speeds and HGV safety standards, we’re building a city you can move around with confidence.

Low rates are a start, but our goal is zero. Because every journey should end safely.

Reaching net zero by 2050 ‘cheaper for UK than one fossil fuel crisis’ Climate change committee finds move to renewable energy would also bring health, economic and security benefits

Our dependency on fossil fuels makes us vulnerable. Wars across the world are pushing up prices for households in the UK.

Why keep waiting for the next crisis? We need to transition to clean power as fast as we can to protect people and our economy.

Oh yes, one of my top pet peeves also! Just ahead of stopping *past* the lights, so they have no idea when the light goes green, and are overtaken by those who stopped in the right place! Minor, but also unnecessary ...

London needs a safe, connected cycle network!

Great to see tri-borough momentum:
Haringey, Islington and Hackney cabinet leads + LCC members visited the incomplete C50 route which ends dangerously at Finsbury Park bridge.

Hi @willnorman.co.uk + @sebdance.bsky.social how soon can you start here?

1 month ago 8 3 0 0

With thanks to all who discussed the dismal lack of progress on C50 @haringeycyclists.bsky.social
@hackneylcc.bsky.social
@londoncycling.bsky.social

Calling @willnorman.co.uk @london.gov.uk - this was announced in 2018, would be super to complete by 2028 ?

Jeremy Vine loves him, motorists hate him. Is this man London’s most controversial cyclist? How Cycling Mikey's quest for road safety divided London

Public reporting deters crime. We urge it for burglary, assault, fraud — so why not road danger?? Reporting helps tackle reckless driving and save lives. The Daily Mail mocking this as “villainy” misses the point. Accountability on our roads protects everyone.

Photo of a London bus stop shelter at Nutfield Close with a protest-style poster that reads, “You know who’s not in the Epstein files? Immigrants, muslims and trans people. You know who is? Billionaires.” The poster includes cut-out photos of four wealthy, well-known men along the bottom, and the shelter is branded JCDecaux on a sunny street with bare winter trees in the background.

Hi everyone - it seems there’s been a targeted campaign against this plan for protected cycle lanes on Bayswater Road. If you look back through the consultation it had 400 negative responses in 24 hours 😨

Londoners on bikes, we’d love to hear from you in this. Please take a moment … 1/2

Good thread - 🐘 in the room not talked about nearly enough

The 🐘 is too many private cars making short journeys which could be made in healthier more sustainable ways. Some will always be necessary but let's be clear on the main problem

LTNs and all their associated benefits are staying. Brilliant news and well done for a win for Bethnal Green, Tower Hamlets and London.
As for the school streets Mayor Rahman ripped out, they should now be reinstated under that same ruling, as they are part of LIP.

East London residents win sensational victory in fight to save low-traffic schemes London-wide implications for LTNs as Court of Appeal rules that Tower Hamlets mayor Lutfur Rahman acted unlawfully in trying to ignore Sadiq Khan’s transport masterplan

After 2+ years of legal battles, the Court of Appeal has ruled in our favour.
Tower Hamlets cannot lawfully remove our safer streets. A huge precedent for London.

Happy to see this crowdfunder work out in the end and see that @saveoursaferstreets.org won the appeal to stop the Tower Hamlets LTNs being ripped out!
Let's hope the Mayor there gets the message 🤞🏼

I do like this little scheme on Bayley St - just off Tottenham Court Rd.

This was a signal controlled junction from a one-way street, contraflow cycling was added & then the junction filtered with a cycle track.

Now it's a bike lane & a new public space with SuDS. 🚲☔️☘️💚

Bank Junction Taxi Access We have started a trial to allow licensed taxis (black cabs) to travel across Bank Junction on weekdays - share your feedback now.

Taxis always maintained *access*, what they've done is allowed a taxi cut-through that ultimately reduces safety of pedestrians and cyclists in the junction. You can comment on City of London's Bank Junction taxi access trial here. bank-taxi.commonplace.is/en-GB/

The irony in Ellson, Battaglino, Stewart, Stops etc demanding a small minor street literally called ‘King Henry’s Walk’ takes 12,000 daily cars from surrounding A-roads to make driving more convenient. Because that’s social environmental justice apparently. They really are crackers.
