If you’ve witnessed the growth of online extremism in Ireland over the past few years, then the constant minimisation of the threat of the far-right (by the authorities and some of the commentariat) has been akin to watching a disaster happen in slow motion.

Written in the Irish language a poster titled “Election for President” describes Catherine Connolly as being from Galway, a great footballer, and someone who can speak the Irish language. Heather Humphries is described as being from Co Monaghan, a member of the Fine Gael party, and married to a farmer.
The PSA from our school on the presidential election was perfection #speirgorm #aras25
FINALLY SOMEONE SAYS IT. Thank you @eimermcauley.bsky.social
“Hate speech loads the gun before violence pulls the trigger”. Inspiring call to action by the Permanent Representative of Malta to the Council of Europe, Francesca Camilleri Vettiger at the opening of No Hate Speech week in Strasbourg.
🧵 Were you one of those straight Irish people dancing in the streets, after the same sex marriage referendum?
Time to start campaigning again. This time so that trans adults & kids get timely & best practise healthcare.
Scarily the HSE has signed up to the widely dismissed & inhumane UK model [1]
I can attest to this being the norm with the HSE. I don't know a single trans person who trusts the NGS. And from what I hear, plans are to make it even worse.

This statement about the transphobic Supreme Court ruling by the UK's Crab Museum (yes a museum about crabs) is better than 99% of the statements I've seen on the topic

GDPR, gender identity & why the UKSC decision doesn’t apply to Ireland... “… without coming undone from the principles of data protection, the UK state can't lawfully take actions to process people's gender data in a way that ignores their lived experience in favour of their gender status at birth.”
“Thousands of trans rights protesters gathered in central London on Saturday, days after the U.K.'s Supreme Court ruled that a woman is someone born biologically female & that transgender women are excluded from that legal definition.”
Solidarity is our power. We will make our communities flourish.

So I’ve had my 1st Black History Month event cancellation because of “DEI concerns,” citing a fear of frivolous suits. Funny thing is, I don’t do DEI, I’m a historian of the Black American experience. A reminder that DEI is just a dog whistle about suppressing history, if you need a reminder.
Full submission is 15 pages long and will be released once it's up on the NICF website.
"...You know what I think is reprehensible? Seeing the scale of civilian deaths that we’ve seen in Gaza. You know what I think is reprehensible? People being left to starve and humanitarian aid not flowing."

Ok, time for an explainer on trans health care for kids, and how it's changed over the years.
First, and if you're reading me, I'm sure you already know this, but this is for the kids in the back...
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS TRANS SURGERIES ON KIDS. PERIOD.
A great reminder to support independent journalism - a lovely holiday gift for the person that literally has everything!
We previously had an option for cold lunches - sambos, fruit etc - which were provided in paper bags (and which my kids happily ate). I agree that nutritional values should be considered, but so should waste (food and plastic).
Our extremely rural school is part of the pilot for hot school lunches - brilliant in theory but they are provided in plastic containers that go straight in the recycling bin. That’s 90 plastic containers every day from our small school - this must be part of the evaluation programme.
Trans folks held a dance party in the Capitol bathroom to protest the bathroom ban on there.

Child in Christmas hat watching the results being announced of the first count of Limerick county in the general election
Kids enjoying the electoral process, and have a healthy appreciation of PRSTV. Wouldn’t it be lovely to see a woman elected in Limerick county some decade… #GE24
Cartoon drawing of a tallyman, seen in his natural habitat of a count centre, Blockia in hand, clipboard with tally sheets under his armpit.
His time is here. The Tallyman cometh. #GE24
