Flu Spike: Should We Bring Back Masks? | This Morning's View YouTube video by This Morning

The discussions of masking here highlight a huge misunderstanding in how airborne viruses function.

This, in turn, highlights a massive failure in public health education.

Public Health needs to highlight the difference between airborne and droplet transmission. It is vital to protect our health.

153 unvaccinated students quarantining after measles exposure at South Carolina schools More than 150 unvaccinated students exposed to measles in South Carolina schools are quarantining, according to local health officials.

This is what happens when we get too complacent and start to question the necessity of vaccines. This is what happens when mis- and disinformation run rampant.

I recently learned the term "narcissistically defended" and it has changed my perspective. I think we throw around the term "narcissist" too much these days. Not everyone who exhibits narcissistic traits is a narcissist. Using a term this impactful carelessly has led to dilution and desensitization.

I'm curious. What's the #academic community's true view of #AI? Any ethical concerns? Are some people excited about the possibilities? Are others wary of the consequences? What are your thoughts #AcademicSky?

Wow. It's wild that we make so little that we qualify for government assistance. I had no idea.

I learned about this when I experienced it myself.

That's awful!! BCBAs like that should not be allowed anywhere near neurodivergent individuals.

I recently stepped back from pursuing a #PhD and I felt knocked off course and imbalanced. However, I found that my love for #datascience has actually grown, and I'm exploring the fields of behavioral science and computational #psychology. It's an interesting new path, but I'm excited. #PublicHealth

A measles outbreak in the United States. I don't think people understand how anomalous that sounds. Something like this should never have happened. It was completely preventable.

Trump and his team keep referencing a third term. But could he actually run again? The 22nd amendment bars presidents from a third term in office. Is it enough to stop Trump?

Rep. Ogles proposed an amendment to the Constitution allowing a president to serve a 3rd term, enabling Trump to run again. However, amending the Constitution requires 2/3 approval from the House & Senate, plus ratification from 3/4 of state legislatures, making it impossible. Dream on- Aerosmith

Thank you. I needed to hear that.

Thanks for saying that. I feel like I'm 'wasting time' if I don't keep working on my skills and advancing my career during this time.

So, I'm taking a break from PhD studies. I'm burnt out, exhausted, and my mental health took a downturn. However, the question is "What now?" I've been asked that too many times. I've just been looking for jobs to keep working on my skills. Any advice?

Update: All the major COVID-19 and other infectious disease data pages mentioned in this story now appear to be updating on regular schedules again, despite reports that the comms ban at HHS will be extended. The data.cdc.gov portal is also back online after briefly going down over the weekend.

Why hasnโ€™t the bird flu pandemic started? Some scientists examining mutations found in H5N1 viruses fear major outbreak is imminent but others says pathogen remains unpredictable

If an #H5N1 pandemic starts tomorrow or in three months, there will be little mystery as to how it happened. The conditions are all there. They have been for a while.
So in some ways the more interesting question to me at the moment is: Why arenโ€™t we in a pandemic yet?
Story here, ๐Ÿงต to come:

Many people do not grasp the real risk of an outbreak of avian influenza in humans.
โš ๏ธ Large outbreaks in livestock
โš ๏ธUnexplained sporadic human cases
โš ๏ธ Infected farm workers
โš ๏ธ Tainted raw milk.
Viruses thrive on opportunities and right now #H5N1 in US is at the unchecked opportunities buffet.
