A character window displaying a bandit known as Lyndan "The Hillhound", wearing a metallic mask over a scale coif and dressed in dark cloaking and armor. He is accompanied by a bear, standing in a dark-orange, plagued forest. Icons are at the bottom depicting faux-character traits, along with a "coat of arms" depicting his unknown dynasty.
The Hillhound
i havent made renders so long and it shows honestly
commissioned by a friend
@thefargo.bsky.social Hey what was the deal with the giant worm in undercity anyways
Was it just a big worm? Was it a source of plague? Was it just there to look cool? Does it pay taxes?

man i aint posted anything in a while
anyways:
in over my head, i decided to put together a render for a #VTM 5e character i'm putting together

Something Like Comfort
I have felt a rush of inspiration.

Sandwich
I wonder if I overdid it on this one...

For the obligatory "next one", I'll probably screw with the settings a bit more, though!
I could've probably cranked it up but I wanted the image to be largely recognizable. Some of the camcorder cassettes I still have are still in pretty good quality, although I don't view them much (and, ofc, they're not the same thing, but ultimately it's the impression that counts I think)
TOMORROW'S A WORKDAY DUMBASS
Trying out some VHS filtering. I don't do enough mundane "real" looking stuff solely because I feel it gets uncanny or wack.

The camera spies a tall, sterile, mechanical room from afar. Cables hang over the foreground. Two men - a lightly armored scavenger (center left) and a Combine elite soldier (center right) stand in the center of the room. A Combine Advisor (top left) exits a machine cradle, its camera trained on the scavenger.
Roost
A Combine Advisor receives a human interloper.
I've had a doodle of this in my notebook for months. I don't know why it took me until now to turn that compositional blockout into a reality.

I realize you probably didn't have much control over what other zone quest designers were doing at that period but I'm still interested in hearing your opinion on this! ๐
been too heavy on the comedy reference part? I mean things like the Badlands' "Punch DW in the Face", or Redridge's "they used me as a toilet" Keeshan, or the Indiana Jones Uldum questline, or the Sludge Fields, in particular.
some of the zone revamps, like Elwynn Forest's Defias erasure, for example, leaving certain quests that were tied to the Defias questline kind of completely directionless (ex: The Collector quest & The Collector's Schedule item)?
Additionally, do you think some parts of Cata's questing might have
While I lament the loss of the true Barrens mega-zone experience, I also think southern Barrens is one of the better zones from Cataclysm. A few friends (me included, admittedly) have bad memories with the expansion due to some of the zone storylines, though. In hindsight, what do you think about
...their surroundings to exist without problems. I don't imagine this ever actually was the case, but I like to think that the "light-versus-void" thing going on is such a cosmically incomprehensible ordeal that no person would be able to boil it down to "void wants to kill us because it's evil".
...on life. Inversely, void entities would be "incompatible" with reality, and the Old Gods would have been failed manifestations of the Void Lords as they attempted to interface with this reality. Ontologically speaking, the void lords wouldn't be necessarily *evil*; they'd just have to rewrite...
...Infused reality/the Great Dark Beyond with more Light energies than Shadow. As a consequence, Naaru & other light-creatures exist comfortably, and Order-aligned things like the Titans & Keepers like Tyr could harness the Light without problems. Consequently, Light would have a positive effect...
I remember a crackpot theory a friend and I discussed once, as a way to rationalize why - to us - void-entities and the old gods are evil, while trying to keep in mind that the Naaru had "light bad" moments before, too. We posited that the creation of the universe, when Light & Void 'big bang'd...
has more info on this/is willing to divulge some of those perspectives! Thanks a lot for the answer, too! I might pester in the replies for some more behind-the-scenes information about things in the future. You rock!
As of writing this, I'm 13 minutes deep into the T&E video you posted at the end of your thread. I hadn't seen it before, and either completely forgot or never really parsed the fact that SL's chronicle stages the cosmological chart as being penned by a nondescript Azerothian. I hope Robert Brooks
->in some cases) take the stance that chronicle (& by extension its cosmology) were 'Warcraft gospel', that is fundamental truth. Now the "official stance" is that the books (at least vol.I?) are Titan-biased P.o.V.s, but as recently as T.W.W. we've seen one mortal model of cosmology (Palawltar's).๐ง
When you were making these associations, were you basing them off of any one particular "in-universe" viewpoint? e.g.: Kirin Tor astronomers making guesses at the universe; Titans/Constellars assigning their mindsets on specific findings, and so on. Many people I talk to (myself included->
dude you have no idea how fascinating this is to me i would talk your ear off about this just to know every miniscule facet
As for the metal rings, I have no idea what those are supposed to be. Maybe it's just decoration, maybe it's me misinterpreting a smudge of color. I thought about making it platinum-ish, but I decided on a coppery color. It's a nice bit of contrast to the greys and blacks, I think.
The text at the head and the battery monitor are also purely informational:
At the top, you can see "Service end - do not touch", while the battery monitor has an informational text corresponding to the energy pips. The left-hand one reads "Low Charge"; the right-hand one "Operational".
Initially, I thought about making it some kind of dial or knob, as if the wielder of a baton can indicate how strong the electric shock might be, but in the end I decided on something simpler:
A battery monitor.
