Should potholing be banned?

You'll only drive it underground.

You can lead the Daily Telegraph to an NHS story, but you can't make them report it accurately.

Every donation can save up to 3 lives so I’ve potentially helped 300 other humans, & all it takes is an hour or so every 12wks.

Thought about it before but never done it? Get involved. Feel good about yourself by helping people you have not (& probably will not) ever meet. Be a good person, folks.

Today I was honoured to be invited to a Blood Donor Recognition Ceremony due to me donating over 100 pints of my finest red stuff.

I’ve been donating since I was 18 and it’s the most altruistic thing you can do that can make a difference to society.

Always nice to know you're appreciated by your clients. Receiving a lovely thank you email out of the blue genuinely makes self-employment so much nicer and less lonely!

Populism is a fundamentally dishonest form of politics, that attracts fundamentally dishonest people.

It is a tissue of lies that validates the darkest prejudices, and covers up the most blatant greed and corruption.

It generates wealth for the few, and suffering for the many.

[trying to insult someone but I've momentarily forgotten the word "woke"] lol you're aware of societal injustices and prejudices and actively live your life so as to avoid further propagating them

If I ever do want lessons on what the public interest looks like I'm pretty sure I won't take them from a thin skinned, self interested, tax avoiding, Brexit supporting, billionaire.

Quick morning shout out to all the other freelancers who didn't even know it was the bank holiday, the whole concept having become utterly irrelevant to their lived experience.

Today is my 16th anniversary of being a pro magician. It’s been a fun ride and I genuinely love entertaining people whilst making them laugh. I also now own a lot of suits.

This is brilliant. Whenever someone says comedy/laughter/fun is dead ‘these days’ just direct them to this thread. 🎯

Had a great time last week hosting the iNetwork Awards for the 5th consecutive year. Always a fun crowd to play around with and some incredibly worthy winners.
Big shout out to the team who put the whole thing together - stalwarts!

There’s a by-election coming in #Leicestershire Council for Narborough & Whetstone. Caused by Reform UK councillor Andrew Thorp resigning.

The Reform candidate - Dee North is a former parish councillor in the division who got booted off that council for… NON ATTENDANCE.

Headline: 'Kemi will cut £200 off bills by drilling in North Sea'.
Actual quote: 'I'm not saying it's going to go onto your bills'.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social wants to know what's going on with the 'drill baby drill' brigade.

Should political donations be capped to protect against undue influence? I believe the
answer is – yes.
Should the House of Lords be elected or appointed? An elected Upper House would
meet democratic aspirations, but would be a monumental mistake. It could – and would –
challenge the primacy of the Commons and create constitutional confusion.
It would not retain the wisdom and lifetime experience to enable it to discharge its
primary function of revising legislation. It would not be a partner to the Commons: it
would be a rival.
Recent General Elections have thrown into doubt the continuing validity of the “first past
the post” system of voting.
As voting preferences spread more widely it provides distorted results. The democratic
case for examining this is growing, although changes would come with distinct
drawbacks.
Should Members of Parliament who defect to a different Party be compelled to face a by-
election? Constitutionally, no – as they are deemed to be elected as individuals.
But, in the real world, they are elected as representatives of a political Party. So – yes:
logic and common decency suggest they must face the electorate again in a by-election.
If the House of Commons wishes to regain the respect it has lost, it must justify the
status-quo – or change it.
And one further thought: is it not time to recognise that Brexit has failed to deliver its
many promises, and the loss, each year, of £100 billion of European trade, and £40
billion of tax revenue is doing enormous damage to the lives and livelihoods of the
British people – and their future?

Big speech by John Major tonight delivering the Clement Attlee memorial lecture at Kings College. Some extracts: thinks that our electoral system may now need changing, Brexit needs revisiting.

Yesterday I predicted today’s #SixNations results.

I got the first two badly wrong.

What’s the betting I get the last one (the only one I didn’t want to happen) spot on? Bloody rugby.
