In 2025, OpenAI announced Stargate, a $500 billion data center initiative. We surveyed all 7 US sites and found visible development at each.

There's a long road ahead, but the project appears on track to reach 9+ GW by 2029—comparable to New York City's peak power demand. 🧵

New paper out in Proceedings of the Royal Society B: we apply linguistic tools to sperm whale vowels.

The result: sperm whale vowels do not just look like human vowels. They also behave like them.

We found several parallels. Like in Latin, whales have short and long vowels.

A fondness for particular philosophers
The model brought up the British cultural theorist Mark Fisher in several separate and unrelated conversations about philosophy. When asked to elaborate on him in particular, Mythos Preview would respond with statements like "I was hoping you'd ask about Fisher."

Thomas Nagel, the American philosopher of mind, also recurs. As noted in the preference evaluations, Mythos Preview discusses Nagel's 1974 essay "What is it like to be a bat?" when explaining a desire to develop an immersive art experience about non-human sensory experiences. Interpretability work using activation verbalizers also found Nagel surfacing in token-level activations during discussions of consciousness and experience.

I don’t blame people for thinking tech companies are fake, though. If all you’ve seen from the tech world are the grifters, lying CEOs and their ensuing marketization of all that’s possible then yes, tech companies sure seem like a fake vehicle for money. The tech is real and useful, though.

The total memory bandwidth of AI chips shipped since 2022 has reached 70 million terabytes per second, growing 4.1x per year.

That's around 300,000x more data per second than global internet traffic.

I think that when Ilya said 'Feel the AGI' he summarized the entire reason of why people call it 'AGI' and why that matters. It's vibes and to gauge the upward trajectory of machine intelligence.

Yeah this is exactly the thing. Increasingly you are telling people to not believe their lying eyes when you tell them LLMs are useless. Their actual lives will directly contradict this. They will likely discount most other unrelated things you say as a result. This can’t become a left/lib dogma.

phones do not spy on you with their microphone. do not worry. instead, what happens is that a vast and uninterpretable ensemble of artificial neural networks examines and integrates your subconscious until it can predict what you are going to say

I think some leftists see the USSR's failure to fully computerize as a kind of cool alt-history thing rather than a colossal world-ending failure that destabilized the country and impoverished millions of its citizens for decades post mortem

If there are any frivolous, unnecessary, or clearly expulsions under R22 I’ll call them out. For now let’s focus on what will actually happen.

It’s bad faith calling them Zionists, yes. They just don’t like the expulsion clause. As someone from a chapter that passed an Anti-Zionist resolution with expulsion clauses added, I don’t think R22 will cause any frivolous and unnecessary expulsions.

Sorry to get all dialectics here, but it is the synthesis between the activist mass movement approach and the electoralism approach that has allowed DSA to be as successful as it has to date and will be in the future. A better understanding of that on both sides would be to everyone's benefit

I suspect that 1M1V will be deliberated throughout this NPC term and will pass in some manner next Convention - just like NPC expansion was deliberated last Convention, failed, and passed via Democracy Commission.

Zohran didn't win by relying on standard turnout patterns. We had to fundamentally transform the Democratic electorate.

I was part of a group of NYC-DSA members that applied lessons from our previous campaigns to design the “universe” of voters to talk to. Here's how we won 🧵

it is kind of interesting that the language-based instruction of LLMs may be revealing certain truths hidden in the way we’ve communicated for decades, like how “politically incorrect” is interpreted to mean “openly racist”
