Posts by Trae Hawkins

Five writers standing in a row before a storefront window facing the street: Trae Hawkins, TT Madden, Mahaila Smith, Aina Hunter, and me. Trae Hawkins is wearing black pants, a blue vertically striped shirt, and a black coat with what appears to be a white wool lining over it all; TT Madden is wearing a white blouse, a black wrap over it with white and purple hearts, and a skirt with an image of Rivendell on the front; Mahaila Smith is wearing a short red skirt, a black top, pink and yellow shoes, and elf ears; Aina Hunter is wearing black pants and a black top, and a faded denim jacket over them; and I'm wearing red pants, a black sweater which depicts a flying saucer lifting up an abductee, and aliens down one arm, as well as shoes with multi-colored paint drips on them. I'm the only one holding a book with its cover visible: 101 Things to Do Before You're Downloaded.

My drive home from Charm City Spec was so treacherous and time-consuming due to Baltimore baseball traffic I was too exhausted then to share this pic from Charm City Spec, but here I am with the four other readers — @traewrites.bsky.social, TT Madden, @mahailasmith.ca, and Aina Hunter. A fun night!

There's has been a lot of discourse lately about reviews, especially for older and indie titles. NEW YEAR, NEW YOU, released in 2024, got lovely coverage from indie & mainstream reviewers alike. I wanted to highlight them again w/ a big THANK YOU 🧵

(and we're still happy to give out review copies!)

ECO24: THE YEAR'S BEST SPECULATIVE ECOFICTION ed. by Marissa van Uden held up before a viburnum lush with autumn foliage.

Timely and transcendent. I've had a marvelous time recently with ECO24, collecting some of the finest ecofiction of the last year. A chance to reflect on the anxieties of a changing world, and to consider possibilities for transformation and alternative paths. A critical collection for our time!!

Story day!! I’m so delighted to debut in @unchartedmag.bsky.social with ‘Love Story in Colored Glass:’ an inter-dimensional love story about a starship that breaks reality - and a pair of lovers who find themselves, again and again, across the fracture.

this was such a lovely story--the structure, pacing, and prose are so tight. it doesn't shy away from the reality of war and rebellion but it has such a tender core of compassion to it
