Posts by UK Collaborative Centre for Housing Evidence
There are several issues for a new government to address, such as how to reinvigorate national housing strategy with credible delivery structures and resources, empowering local authorities to deliver and reforming housing-related taxation (as seen with success in Northern Ireland).
❗ Scotland’s Housing to 2040 strategy was launched with ambitious long-term goals but by March 2026, 14 councils and the Scottish Government itself have declared a “housing emergency”.
📍 In a continuation of revisiting our 4 priority areas for housing in our manifesto, The 2026 Scottish Election: Housing Evidence Priorities for a New Government, authored by Prof @kengibb.bsky.social & Dr Gareth James, today we’re highlighting the second priority: governance & structural reform.
We highlight immediate supportive responses alongside providing medium and long-term recommendations to achieve this goal.
💡Further posts will follow in the week discussing the further three housing priorities.

🏠 One of which is resetting the affordable housing supply programme.
📢 At the end of 2025, we published our manifesto, The 2026 Scottish Election: Housing Evidence Priorities for a New Government.
