Widening the Gap on Wes Anderson: On the Greatness of The Phoenician Scheme “It is abundantly clear that he [Wes Anderson] firmly remains as one of the most exciting voices of the American cinema let alone film altogether, and The Phoenician Scheme, against the chief…

Really think I've reached a new echelon of quality with this piece. Any feedback, especially critique, is welcome and encouraged!

Just a reminder on its US release that I wrote deeply on Wes Anderson's latest and already underrated film The Phoenian Scheme, which once more expands Anderson's world and concerns in the most striking and unexpectedly revealing of ways. Essential!

Still can’t believe this happened. Being listed alongside such incredible company, all of whom I think are extraordinary writers, educators, columnists, critics, and historians. I don’t have words. Having this arrive just made my weekend. I’m speechless.

Cinema, like all art, is inherently political. Not choosing a side might seem apolitical, but it’s not. It’s just cowardly. Stand by the fans being hurt by the current administration, and your talent that is vocal about it, rather than turning a blind eye

“As long as they’re a decent human being” 🙄

I'm proud to say that I've been - along with a few other folks far, far more qualified and integral than myself - marginally involved in this.

Anyways: there's no river long enough that doesn't contain a bend, but I'm unusually confident that this release will be everything we've all hoped for.

...there is some funkiness with the new 4k THE SEARCHERS release. This is so odd. I'm very curious.

The first thing I've noticed is that there's a ton of weird posterized magenta glints that become most noticeable during nighttime exterior sequences.

If you didn't know it already, Danny DeVito is a master director and The War of the Roses, being a masterpiece and everything, is an absolute tour de force display of that.

The fact this kind of cartoonish extreme evil is in fact our incoming reality has not been lost on me, nor should it be on anyone else. We have to stop apologising for calling it out for what it is: the revival of fascism on an unprecedented, supremely dangerous scale. Hard not to feel doomed here!

These people are deeply and seriously mentally ill. Trump, Miller, all of them. It is hard to fathom. They value money and power, nothing else. NOTHING ELSE.

I don't think its a masterpiece at all, but my god I do really admire it. One of those pictures where, in spite of all the obvious flaws (which are bad enough to distract me from the film), I am able to like it.
