Oh that is a FRIEND... thank you for sharing!
i feel like this whenever i talk to anyone about my thoughts on their dynamic. welcome to my twisted mind. it's my world now.
Late September's chill was a familiar visitor, now eleven days since the sand pest’s revival. Bachelor Dankovsky's recommendation to seal the hearth was one Lara had heeded. Perhaps to great success, seeing as the House of the Living had continued to earn its namesake despite cases erupting in the Flank now for the third time. She wasn’t foolish enough to more rigorously test the Bachelor’s advice. What works is what works. Doubt is the origin of failure, and lies are as honest as any truth. Such was the wisdom the Changeling had bestowed, and such was the nature of her resolution. But what brought out Lara’s shiver wasn't the temperature; it was the frigid silence freezing the air between her and the Bachelor himself. Perched with both hands on her dining room table, Daniil only had eyes for the floor. Lara bore her own gaze there with him. “Lara.” She had nothing more to say to him. “Your alleged ‘epiphany’ defies all logic,” he continued anyway. “You wish to become like Simon? Reduce yourself into vapor, disperse into the aether? Your life is your own to end, of course, but this is another matter entirely for you. You’ve somehow twisted your suicidal ideation into serving something above and beyond you. Why? Do you know what, exactly, Simon has done for the world since his death?” Lara held her arms, rubbed them up and down until friction generated warmth.
“Nothing.” Her table’s legs screeched against the floor as Daniil pushed himself up. His clacking steps echoing louder, then softer, then louder again told Lara he was pacing. “The once-immortal Simon Kain died and dissolved into his beloved town, and in his wake, five thousand people died in less than two weeks. All in horrific and mostly preventable ways. What, exactly, is life-bearing about that? Unless you mean to suggest an excruciating death is the miracle you wish to emulate with your suicide?” She drew a sharp breath through her nose. “Will you please listen? With respect, you have no idea what you’re talking about.” A bitter, mirthless laugh. “I have no idea what I'm talking about? On the contrary, I know precisely the single most life-bearing state for one to be in this world – nay, in this universe as we understand. Are you ready to hear this universal truth?” “Daniil.” “Come, now. Would you not do this for me were our positions reversed, o caretaker of the House of the Living? Granted, most every human is wrapped in a sordid affair with hypocrisy; I can fault you no more than any other for your own. But it is my, apparently nigh-unattainable, belief that we should all have a modicum of care attempting to avoid embodying it. Anyway, prepare to learn. Ready now? The single most life-bearing state for one to be in is…” “Stop it, Daniil.” “…being alive.”
Lara rolled her eyes under closed lids. Shook her head. Daniil burst into yet more soulless laughter. “You disagree?” Daniil’s tone feigned intrigue. “My. I cannot say I’ve ever once considered how much life there is to be found in death. Do accompany me to the Theater this evening, Miss Ravel. Full glad would I be to have you explain your theory to the infirmed. I could adjust the dosage of their analgesics to simply stop the screaming while maintaining awareness. That way, you can explain to them exactly how alive they are about to become.”
decided to post the little beginning of my daniil and lara fic... writing daniil "female hysteria (male)" dankovsky is so much fun. i adore his voice. i'm excited to expand more with lara's voice as well. the blend of P1 and P2 for her personality that i'm going for is so much fun to think about.

The tragedians believe I have no heart.
I have a heart now, perhaps the tragedians would like to have a look…
I have misinterpreted the tragedians.
