Not for me this as not an academic so can't publish via your open access route. But thought it worth the comment in case anyone else wants to take it up.

Having said that, some hypotheses would have significant social impact that could affect future pathways for civilisation; so evaluation might be important, but in a very different way (to something like safety of the structure itself).

But I'm not sure how important it is that we know what something once was. Where something is known to be important, there's always a review of relative likelihood of what it is/was (important for example if safety is known to be an issue).

Nice (found this via @archaeodeathprof.bsky.social). I can see a possible topic on why there's little evaluation of probabilities of current and alternative hypotheses given how much time is spent countering wrong ideas about prehistory.

Listened to Mary Beard on interpretations of the past (R4) about half an hour ago. It's a shame that there's no standardised method to evaluate relative likelihood for any given structure, but I'm not sure how much difference it would make.

I don't use the Mastadon account these days: I should.
It feels to me like the main one too: especially when bad actors eventually get access. It's relatively easy to defend against from a data destruction point of view, but you have to have foreseen that it's possible.

I'm guessing there's little concern or it's seen as too unlikely? Back when I was a lot younger, I had quite an interest in systems (qualified as a full member of one of the computing institutes); so I suspect I might be overly paranoid about protecting our systems.

Would be interesting to see if anyone notices the subtle improvements made to the above (I think it's definitely something that the democrats in Congress would pass)
