I was like “Look, I never asked you not to mention your own getting pregnant efforts. Just be normal.” Then they immediately said “We got pregnant right away! Apparently I am SUPER FERTILE!!!! “
(Ie they could not be normal about it.)

As a member of an involuntarily infertile couple, sometimes news about children has been hard for me but I cope. On the other hand, I had a “friend” who got mad at me because they “weren’t sure what they could talk about with me”.
“Becoming”
We are so back. 65% voter turn out 76% say yes to strikes 87% say yes to asos UoN UCU says yes to industrial action and no to cuts, closures, and redundancies. Again.
The results are in. And it's a massive win for our union.

Would I benefit from a user swappable design? Not particularly. Do I want a user swappable battery? Not really, no.
This is over constraining. I think the goal of reducing eWaste and limiting the effect of fast tech fashion are excellent but then put targets not mechanisms.
My current phone is an iPhone 11 Pro which was released in 2019. I bought it second hand mostly for a camera upgrade. I have no plans to buy a phone anytime soon. I can replace the battery officially via Apple for around £85. I could go third party for cheaper I’m pretty sure. I don’t feel the need
I like the intentions but both the justifications and execution will be problematic.
For example, it’s just weird to say that Apple has planned obsolescence when eg iPhones retain their value (and software updates) for a very long time. I buy older generation iPhones second hand and use for years
Just academics, and it's under the legal minimum for a proper consultation. I'm a UCU rep so will be fighting for everyone.
UCU Scotland president Chris O'Donnell moving @ucu.org.uk motion on the Crisis in Post 16 Education. Calls on universities to be fully funded and for the framework review into funding to protect jobs, students and education #SaveHE #StopTheCuts
Every mf likes to say they're taking full responsibility, no mf wants to take full responsibility.
15 minutes; no questions; government got the blame; my department to have 60% of us sacked. Apparently sacking us will lead to a ‘new, improved’ curriculum. No voluntary scheme, straight to selection and legal minimum redundancy payment.
If I understand the OfS line of reasoning, requiring a candidate for academic promotion to express a statement opposing misogyny, antisemitism or racism would 'discriminate' against a lecturer that supports misogyny, antisemitism or racism... inherently discriminatory frameworks (albeit 'awful')
A dozen politicians, aides and officials — including some who have worked intimately with the prime minister in Downing Street — spoke to POLITICO on condition of anonymity, because the matter is sensitive, and described a leader defined primarily by his absence. Starmer, they say, has no ability to manage a team; an aversion to conflict; no guiding mission for power; no energy to drive change; little interest in people; and no interest in political strategy. While not all agree, some suggest Starmer just isn't willing to do the tough work a prime minister must — perhaps because he likes his time away from the office more than he should.
Those things you heard about Starmer being good? A consummate manager with a thirst for social justice? At the absolute minimum, a hard-worker? All fake news I’m afraid
Starmer trusted his first-choice chief of staff, Sue Gray, to have prepared an oven-ready plan for power, which Labour would roll out the day after winning the election. It turned out no such plan existed. Starmer then replaced Gray with his election mastermind McSweeney, who had been serving in a political director role. McSweeney was given the power to provide political input on Starmer's behalf into a huge swathe of policy decisions across government and, for a time, things improved. https://www.politico.eu/article/keir-starmer-dangerous-leadership-style-uk-peter-mandelson/
“Starmer assumed Gray had a super-secret plan for governing but she didn’t so they did nothing” is such a wild line, and the hacks seem so uninterested in learning more about this astonishing, farcical setup
Wait until they encounter the spiritual successor to verificationism, doyourownresearchism.
Of course, one could try to pivot off it but that doesn’t seem to be happening either. Do we have any confidence that defenestrating a few advisors “solves the problem”? Not sure why it would at this point.
It would have been a lot easier to have not made this error.
And it was an easy error to avoid.
The next best thing would have been to get a head of it. A quiet word and resignation before it all blew up.

Glad I wasn’t the only one to catch it by literally just reading the article bsky.app/profile/nate...
I think what I’ve seen of the guidance it could have be written a bit better but come one. As Emma says; use some common sense.
(Maybe very experienced in healthcare settings.) But if I’m not well I may not be able to easily navigate it or, you know, it’s just one more thing. Sometimes meds cause confusion so keeping it simple is a good thing.
I sometimes run into issues with my health care providers when I give a history because the names I knew a drug under in the US might not be the same as that in the UK. We navigate it, of course, but also I’m very comfortable in English and in healthcare settings.
I might choose to use idioms and words because I like language but I’m not going to do so in a test question if I can avoid it. I’m prepared to explain things and simplify. And I’m not in a health care setting where people are stress and may be confused!
Unbelievably silly.
I have a wide English vocabulary and like fancy and fun language but it absolutely means that I confuse people (even people for whom English is their first language”. I have to be aware of that and be considerate in various settings.
I think you missed the joke.
And “is ‘monsterfucking’ really a single word?!”
But here we are and I yield to my betters.
I honestly did not anticipate the non zero amount of discourse about monstrrfucking on my feed today…or any day.
Like if you had asked me “how much monsterfucking talk do you expect on your feed” I would have been “WTF are you talking about?! Is that a thing?”
Calendar entry which reads “Adult eye test & OCT scan”
I just noticed the description on the Specsavers calendar invite and…I have questions. Pressing questions!
I mean Trump himself has clearly been gagging for it.
The infrastructure is against you!
This is especially true as faking stuff is getting unimaginably easier and badgering is also getting cheaper. You can set up bots to run sophisticated pestering schemes at scale, easily. Trivially.
