If a lawyer does charge for their legal services in filing an FTCA claim, the law caps what they can charge.
An FTCA lawsuit is separate from your immigration case. The government should not retaliate against you for filing. That said, you should never say or write anything in your FTCA case that contradicts your immigration case.
You can file an FTCA claim even if you’re outside the United States but you must file within 2 years of when the harm happened.
Examples of harm can include: unlawful detention, wrongful deportation, family separation, medical neglect, and physical or psychological abuse.
If a government agent like ICE or CBP harmed you or someone you know, there may be a legal path to hold the government accountable.

NEW: Trump Has Detained the Parents of More Than 11,000 U.S. Citizen Kids
A ProPublica analysis of new ICE data shows that Trump has detained parents of U.S. citizen children at about twice the rate that Biden did, and moms have been deported four times as often.

The government can appeal — or try again. And they don’t always follow court orders. Advocates are watching.
Some briefing changes are still in effect. File promptly. Stay alert.
The government tried to cut your appeal deadline from 30 days to 10, auto-dismiss cases within 15 days, & permanently strip arguments you didn’t raise on day one.
A court blocked all three. Your 30 days are restored. Your case must be fully heard. You can still make your full argument in briefing.
