I never claimed otherwise, and I totally agree! But the thrust of his quote even after contextualizing is “Hamas is better than the State of Israel”, which I can’t understand people of good conscience genuinely believing

I’m basing this on the stated aims of Hamas. And I abhor the death of every Palestinian lost in this pointless, cruel campaign by Netanyahu and his cronies.

His attempts to add context to the second and third quotes are weak as hell. Hamas didn't carry out a genocide... but it sure wasn't for lack of interest. And since he can't actually define "liberal Zionist" any better than anyone else (i.e. not at all), Quote 3 just serves to shock.
