I hate the sad empty shell and the lost promise it represents. Sometimes I fantasize about winning the lotto or becoming ridiculously wealthy and reopening that plant. Maybe not for aluminum, but for something that would give families back a bit for what was lost.
For the striking workers. The strike didn’t work. The plant closed. So many people lost livelihoods, pensions and their promised futures. My mom had coworkers whose husbands were suddenly unemployed become the sole breadwinner on a pittance. All these years later it still enrages me. (2)
