A wall of windows with a bookshelf in the middle separating them. On bookshelf are a number of black-spine paperback books that represent many horror categorized books. Exterior through windows is greenery and blue sky.

Equating COBOL to asbestos is, sadly, 🎯

"Fred Gruenberger, a mathematician with the Rand Corporation, put it this way: “COBOL, in the hands of a master, is a beautiful tool—a very powerful tool. COBOL, as it’s going to be handled by a low-grade clerk somewhere, will be a miserable mess.”"

At Noether’s memorial in 1935, mathematician Hermann Weyl said, "She was not clay, pressed by the artistic hands of God into a harmonious form, but rather a chunk of human primary rock into which he had blown his creative breath of life."

Luckily, this race will end before the WBC semi-final begins; won’t need to out grab a screen.

And it appears to be scripted. Like, whoever wrote it, did they say,“Here, this is a good one!”

"In Universes" is great for folks whose commonality is the workplace; there's real substance to it yet nothing that might push folks to get personal.

That's why I didn't rec PNW'r Lidia Yuknavitch's AMAZING "Chronology of Water" - a definite must-read, tho a bit too raw for workplace relations IMO.

And then I walk up this morning remembering the _absolutely perfect_ (fiction) book for an LGBTQ workplace book club - great for discussions - and I believe the author lived in the PNW at some point?
